weird request... I have the suspension in pieces on my 308 GTB and unfortunately have to move the car on short notice. I was thinking about building a body dolly to place under the car to wheel it onto a car trailer. Does anyone have any experience doing this, or appropriate dolly dimensions?

Something like these possibly work? Maybe throw a block of wood between them and the frame rails. Lots of options, just dependent on how quickly you need them., Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not going to be any fun trying to get them to roll up ramps and on to a trailer however.

    Vehicle chassis dolly
    Lots of options
The small wheels make getting up ramps a bit of a pita though.

haha! I totally home built this myself like 8 years ago. It was to only push the car side to side in my tiny garage. I would NOT recommend my method or the first posted dolly for anything more than rolling on a very very smooth floor. You would have to really fasten it to what ever dolly you use.

Definitely the bigger the casters the better.. I’ve built a couple of frame set ups in the past. One to roll the body of my Lotus Esprit around the shop and another to move the cab of a Diamond T pickup. My trailer however is set up with a winch and allows me to pull the vehicles onto the trailer. You’ll never be able to push these vehicles on with any sort of caster setup. My initial post was to suggest a possible 6 x 6 wooden block laying on the wheel caster and set the vehicle down on the frame rail. This would give you enough height for the nose of them vehicle to clear The ramp and would be stable. Yeah, LOL I don’t think putting extended jackstands on these caster set ups would be a very good idea. :)

you might consider car cribs....just not as high as mine for a better center of gravity. 4x4 beams strapped to frame. I slide around the small garage. Biggest casters a plus.

In the time it takes to engineer a contraption, maybe you could just bolt the suspension and wheels back on.

Are you going to move it around a flat surface (like within a garage) or on to a trailer which would involve transitions and elevation changes?

Not sure where you are located but here in the US and probably Canada as well, companies such as Uhaul have dollys used to drive the front wheels of a car onto it. If you adapted two of them you would have no problem getting the car up onto a flat bed truck. The wheels are larger than any roll around dolly. Challenge would be to ensure the car fits between the fenders and steering would be marginal
