Hey Tom, I don't blame you...this weather is brudal! Depending on how much time you have I would look into something in South Africa. My family went there a while ago for 3 weeks, simply amazing vacation! I'm not sure if your into the whole safari thing, but if so then there are many great game reserves and tours. My dad owns a travel agency so if you need to book anything or get some info just PM me and I'll give you his # (I'll try get you an F-chat discount ;)). Hope you find something nice!

I've been fortunate to have gone to some beautiful places. But my 2 favorite locations would be Chile and New Zealand. Both wonderful countries.

I might humbly suggest that any European or even middle-eastern destinations are best suited for summer travel. And might I also suggest, as far as these destinations are concerned, 2 1/2 - 3 weeks should be considered a minimum duration.

Greece, London are far too cold to be fully appreciated....a lot of their charm comes from the "out and about" part of it...especially Greece.

While Egypt isn't that bad for the time of year, I would be wary of travelling in the mid-east these days. I know Canadians are generally thought of as being in a different light than Americans when travelling,..but, I wouldn't want to chance it these days...things are too touchy, at least for my liking, for the time being. Believe me, we all look North American to the local populace!

As for alternative suggestions, I have experienced a couple of cruises this past year (am booked for Alaska this summer as well, can't wait!) and really enjoyed them...lots of different locations to see...I highly recommend, St. Thomas, Puerto rico, St. Marteen and St. Lucia...all very nice. If that isn't your thing, or your looking for something a little off the beaten path...they have some extraordinary places in Costa Rica that will quite frankly blow your mind...amazing wildlife and nature explorations. One of the last truly unspoiled nature preserves left that can be readily accessed by us.
The Mayan riviera is always nice for sun, beach and fun...as well as some incredible archaeological digs, like chitchenitza and tulum, or eco parks like X-caret or xel-ha. These places are much better suited for travel this time of year, and offer something besides strictly beach and booze and food.

Enjoy whatever you decide...a vacation is always nice.

I second that request....I'd love to check out Africa.

Where did you stay when you went there, what did you do?

What time of year? Enquiring minds want to know!

Kenya was amazing, but it was a while ago, and I have no idea what the political situation is right now. You also need to stay at least 2 weeks. At least.
I will second the fact that London will have a terrible weather.

Southern america could be fun, though. A friend of mine just came back from Peru, I'll ask her how it was (like she's gonna say it sucked! lol).

I went maybe 5 or 6 years ago when I was really young. We have family down there who own a timeshare, so we traveled around for 2 weeks and then stayed a week at their house. It takes a while to get used to the amount of poverty there, it was quite shocking since I have never seen anything like that before. You had to pay someone to watch your car in the parking lot due to the amount of theft, not all places were like that though only a couple. We visited Kruger national park and saw "The big 5", it was amazing to see these animals running wild. The scenery there is like nothing I have ever seen, our family down there live on a ranch style property with lots of land and animals so we were surrounded by beauty. We visited alot of beaches and went on some back country hikes.

Steve, next meet I'll bring the photo album with the pictures in it, it's really something you have to see to believe. My mom and/or dad will also fill you in on lots of stuff since I forget most of it.

Do not go to Egypt unless you have every detail arranged prior to travel. Hire a top notch guide, and make sure your accomodations are best available. This is a place that leaves you in a real bad spot if you don't. I know the best tour people there and can help if you need. Cairo is not a spot to be left alone and lost in, believe me. On the up side, I have never been treated with such courtesy and kindness anywhere else in my life.

    Tom,
You need to narrow down the type of holiday you are looking for. If its all beach and veg you need....I must recommend Cuba at this time...a resort and white sand and asleep you go for a week with nothing and nowhere to go.

If you want an experience, may I suggest at this time of the year Costa Rica. Beautiful landscape, a sight to see, the coffee vegatation. No beaches, all rock, and a sight of the world very different. Must be that pacific ocean over there.

If its sightseeing with culture, at this time of year may I recommend Australia. Its summer there now, weather is good, great seafood to say the least and some great sights, and a nice cultural experience.

Finally, if its a rec type of holiday then may I recommend the slopes of either Bannf, or Colarado...Mount Louise in Bannif is just so beautiful, and you get some great skiing.

Me and Vickie have done all these Vactions(b4 kids of course) at this time exactly and were great.

Oh I forget one(most important) we went on our honeymoon on a Princess Cruise in Jan 95...too much food, no sleep, party and shopping on every Island. Not a relaxing holiday, but great for sight seeing. (most costly of our trips that I just mentioned).

    Good luck !!

What about the simple Hawaii or Cuba or Mexico type of thing? Warm, nice beaches, some nice things to see and do.

If your going to consider Cuba, you may also want to look at North Korea or Iran.. I hear they are beautiful this time of year! haha

If you are thinking carribean, I'd personally recommend Barbados, Cayman Islands ($$), or Bahamas... I've also heard good things about St. Lucia and the Turks ($$). The Mayan Rivera in Mexico is also amazing, but I don't know if its cleaned up from the hurricane yet.

    Good luck with your decision!

Despite the Talking Head Bush agenda above, the people of Cuba make it the friendliest island I have seen. This year I (my Canadian half anyway) am doing a driving tour of parts of SW Cuba to attend my son's wedding at Guadalavaca. 3 different hotels/resorts & a rental car filled with rum & cigars.

All-inclusives are easy & safe (even though the food sucks), but a true adventure is usually just outside the gates . . .

Well, I just came back from a stop at Couzamel(sp?)....which was by all accounts the worst hit part of Mexico.

With the exception of the tops of some palm tress, they've cleaned it up real nice...you couldn't tell it was a disaster just 2-3 months ago....the Planacar reef was spectacular, and the roads were clear...beach was incredibly beautiful.

I didn't personally see Cancun (whose beaches were wiped out for years after a major hurrican in the 80's, they are particularly sensitive) or Playa Car, but I have to assume they are at least as renewed....any reputable travel agent will give you an up-to-date report on any local area there, of course.

I havent been but I do plan on going to S. America. There is some really special places down there from what I have gathered. Buenos Aires Argentina is a must.

Brasil is awesome too but you must plan that properly apparently, it could be dangerous but also the best time of your life. Ask KDS, he doesnt just know Porsche ;)

Europe is awesome almost anywhere you go, but as Steve said you must go at least 2.5 weeks and even then. Also, its more during the summer time.

Yeah, ive been to Cuba once and the people there are truly special. Havana is beautiful. However, there are some areas that are sad because people live in serious poverty.

    Cuba is a must.

Good. I hoped so. I guess I am sensitive because I hear that agenda so often south of our border.

Go to Cuba before Fidel dies & the American hordes descend & spoil it. Its only a matter of time . . .
