Heading to France on Friday. Still unclear as to what I need to use US electronic devices in France. Is it A) "just" the adapter that converts US 2 flat prong plugs to France's 2 round prong plug or B) a converter "box" that converts the France 220v to US 110v?

I can't seem to get a straight answer from the workers at Frys. I will be needing to plug in devices such as iPod, iPad, Camera, cell phone, electric razor, etc.

    Thanks for your help!

I had the same problem before leaving for Los angeles in august and for my cell phone i only used an adapter as the charger can work from 110 to 230V. and it worked well.

You WILL need a converter to go from 220v to 110v for some of your devices.

Check the devices you're bringing to see what they need. As lamar said, some devices such as shavers and cellphone chargers are marked "110v-220v" or higher. For those, you may need the adapter to use the French outlets, but you won't need the converter.

If your electronics are marked "110v-120v" or 110v only, then you must use the converter. If you plug those into a 220v outlet you'll at least blow a fuse in the device, and possibly damage it beyond repair.

It's safer to just use the 220v to 110v converter for everything. That way you won't forget and screw things up.

We bought a couple inexpensive multi-converters at Best Buy or Office Depot and they did the trick. There shouldn't be that much of a question--it's been the same forever!

Apple sells a universal usb plug-in charger, you just swap the prongs. That will be fine for all your USB charging needs for $40. There are plenty of adapter kits at Frys. Just read the boxes.
