Hey guys, I have to be in Haikou, China in mid March.

I'll likely never be in China again and I'm wondering a couple things.

What should I see while there.

    Absolute 'must sees'?

Where is the best place to see the Great Wall?

Best way to get around - rail, rental car or other?

Safety - any spots to avoid?

    Many thanks!

if you are only going to be in haikou, you won't see much of anything.

haikou is the capital city of hainan province, which is an island in the southern tip of china. by flight its about 2.5 hrs to shanghai, and close to 4 hrs to beijing. shanghai is the new york of china, and beijing is where the great wall is.

sanya, which is labled the china hawaii, it lies on the same altitude as hawaii, it is THE beach vacation destination of china, its beautiful. it is on the other side of the hainan island, so its about 250 miles from haikou. takes 5 hrs by car.

so if you are staying in haikou, sanya is probably the only place you will get to see.

    ^ Thats a great summary!

Yeah Sanya is very nice.. and if you want to see the Great Wall it's off to Beijing, with Badaling being the typical place to visit the Great Wall, either by coach, train or tour bus.

    Terracotta warriors in Xian etc..

How much can you travel around.. it's a big country :)

Yeah, dumb me, I didn't realize how huge China is. I think we'll prolly just do the race then visit Hong Kong for a few days and then head home.

I was in China for the summer through my school. Spend about 2.5 months there.

Things to see, if you really have time and will never likely to be in China
-Shanghai (great town with a lot of western influence)
    -Shanghai International Circuit
    -Beijing
    -Great Wall
    -Forbidden City
    -Hong Kong
    -Macau

I got some pictures up from China available at the link below. I fell in love with China and possibly looking to relocate in the future over there.
