    Hi everyone,

I seem to have developed an affinity for the 3500 and would love to see one in my garage in the not too distant future. However, I'm still going through the process of learning as much as I can about the car prior to a committed relationship... I've read many of the threads here and have already learned quite a bit. In particular, the "barn find" thread by Mark is a treasure of information. Ivan's website and the 3500 registry have been useful.

Of course there is no substitute for actually seeing and driving a car and I've not yet had the opportunity to do that. The only one I've seen 'in the flesh' was at the Meilenwerk in Berlin when I was picking up my '66 BMW 1800, and was captivated by it.

I'm located in Milwaukee so I'd like to inquire as to any 3500 owners in the Midwest who would be willing to let me visit with them and see a car first hand. I will also be in the LA area October 12 and 13, Friday-Saturday, so I would also appreciate it if anyone there could do the same.

Any other suggestions on how to best understand what I might be getting into would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance to all!

    Luis

Luis, I am glad you found my thread helpful in your research. My car will be in a local Concours on October 7th. If you want to take a detour from your LA trip (about 400 miles), you are welcome to come look at and drive mine. I will have a professional photographer take pictures at the show and I will be happy to email you the folder. I will be listing mine on Ebay right after the show, but I can't imagine it would be gone that soon. Mine will be at the higher end of the price spectrum, due to the early year and extent of the restoration. I am not trying to be a used car salesman....I am just happy to share my enthusiasm. I have gotten to know the car intimately on a mechanical level and it is an amazing piece of craftsmanship. Unfortunately, I know little about the driving experience.

Last month I drove my 3500 #708 (The Mitchell Car) on a 956 mile road rally loaded with a trunk full of luggage and my wife, with no problems at all. My wife also drove it over 100 of those miles and loved it. It ran like a swiss watch and with the stainless exhaust, it just sounds nothing short of terrific. I love the sound of three Webers on song.

As I am currently in Italy, tomorrow I am off to the Imola swap meet to check out what spare parts I can find for 916.
If anyone else will be going there you can call me on my Italian mobile +39 331 932 3004
    Ciao,

    PS
Production of new Maserati cars have begun at the old Bertone factory in Turin now owned by Fiat. Those folks on next years Car Guy Tour will be able to visit this factory, which will NOT be open to others.

Hi My US car missed the Laguna Seca getting over its CAT issue for the exhaust. It is mostly gone through except for some paint touch ups required. The car is in Sacramento now and could go up with my Brother in Law there. What do you think - worth sending up? How would I go about it. At least there would be 6 cars albeit mine may be the sadly mad cousin to the 3500!!

    Frank,

Didn't realize the trunk in a 3500 was that big, Janet must have really pissed you off.

William, you would need to click on the link that I provided and contact Michelle or Brian, to see if there is still space available. The deadline was August 31. If there is space available, it is a great show and I'm sure people would enjoy seeing your car.

We just completed a 1000 mile milee last weekend, where the car ran superb, and even managed a stretch of 35 mpg. But usually it is more like 25 mpg on this "Spirited" Rally. The car is not fast, and I feel it is somewhat ill handling (I blame my tall, skinny Allstate tires).
The course featured plenty of steep, steep windy switch backs, some gravel roads, and lots of undulating, high speed touring. The car was happy with it all. We attended a get together yesterday with some high end car guys, and the 3500 stole the show. A great, all around, useable car, that has no smog requirements, nor any electronics. Plus, it's comfortable.
