that is true, he could race for decades before this interferes.

he (and/or his manager/team) needs to do what Charlie Kimball did with diabetes drugs...find a forward-thinking sponsor and use racing as a platform for awareness/fundraising/selling product.

I agree. I personally always root for team type 1 for what it's worth.

I dunno, I think it'd be more difficult to overcome than diabetes as far as driving a racecar on the edge. I've been diagnosed w/ nerve damage w/ possibilty of early stages of MS and take the same meds also used to treat it. You just never know when you'll have isolated attacks, good day, bad days, no sleep, sleep attacks, can't always control your body temperature while wearing Nomex and helmet and overheat, vision issues, fibromyalgia-type nerve pain and loose concentation, fall on your face.

I stopped competitively racing because I no longer can count on my body being there 100% when in constant potentially dangerous situations. I still rallyrace for charity teams where competition is not purpose, do select hillclimbs because of the short duration and drive pacecars.

Last weekend for my birthday I registered for a time trial track weekend and was lucky my body complied, was able to get off the drugs several days in advance and except for an eye tearup at speed, my body pulled it off. But come Monday, relapsed hard. Stress complicates the symptoms and its hard not to get stressed racing.

    Good luck to Trevor.

mind if I ask your age? I've only known one person with MS (that I was aware of), she was late 50's and just starting to show signs of MS after having been diagnosed in her mid 20's. so I'm not sure if that's typical, or if there is a typical.

btw a friend is an MS researcher at MassGen/Harvard, let me know if you ever need an introduction.

    best of luck!

I'm not a big Nascar fan but I do remember him winning Daytona at 20-youngest ever-and 2 years later he's diagnosed with MS. Guess the lesson is very day counts-good luck Trevor

Yeah, It was rough winning the season opener, and then having to sit out a great deal of the season. :(

He's a solid driver, and has good race craft, and good qualifying.

don't forget a clean cut, respectful and marketable kid/man. he should not have been without a ride in the races following his record win.

Yup-I saw the kid just got married also. I know very little about MS but it sounds like for many it is years before any of the effects are realized. Hope he's in with that group

I've always been perplexed why he doesn't have a full-time ride in Cup. I guess such is life in NASCAR these days...better to have a full time Nationwide seat than a part time or backmarker Cup ride (see also: Hornish, Sadler, etc etc)

I think his mystery sickness had a LOT to do with it. Killed any campaign momentum to go for sponsorship, when you're out several races with serious issues. I'm glad Ford still backs the Wood Brother's and Trevor with sponsorship enough for a part time season.

I can see where it may have been difficult to diagnose.

Mine started with complaining about losing feeling in my legs and they sent my to a vein doctor who actually removed a vein from my leg. Then thought I had simple restless legs syndrome. As it got worse and moved into organs, had to go to ER because nerves weren't telling lung muscles I needed to breathe so ER doctor sent me on wild goose chase to pulminary specialists. Was getting feelings of needing to pee, different sensation of bladder about to explode and fibermyalgia pain where guys have lots of nerves you know when you are kicked there. So, same misguided ER intern gave my referal to urologist.

Takes awhile to step back and look at the overall picture to know its your wiring harness that is crossed up, not the individual parts or your ECU. Bet most other people don't get it figured out right away.
