I pull up on the knob part, then push the fastener in place then release the knob.

I have had to replace a few because they don't hold after a while.

Look into the opening on it. There are IIRC three tabs that do the work. If one is broken and in there crooked it will not work properly. I've had a few do that. I have moved some around. The ones that mount just at the seat backs they don't have much clamping necessary so I've put broken ones there and they do fine. Also, the ones on the seatbacks, they basically need no clamping, only to set in place.

Do the seatbacks first, they are the least critical.

Google TENAX snaps and you will find a bunch of sellers. They run about $8 each, and they are very easy to install: Male screws into the sheet metal, Female screws together with the leather sandwiched between (sounds like this belongs in the Backroom Lounge section).

While you are at it, you may want to replace the Tenax snaps on the B pillars with a stainless steel flat snap. I did because rear seat passengers snag their clothes on the protruding Tenax snaps when getting in and out. I have a flat snap kit from West Marine which I use on my boat canvas; also very easy to install. The flat snap gives the boot a more finished look too.

The one that does not hold is probably one in the inner corner. Try to swap it with the very front one that does not have much pull on it.

Inner corner in front of engine grill closest to the folded top---interesting that you knew that. Found a chrome version at Rimcambi site now just need to find the black top version since they're obviously fragile over time I'd rather just buy some new ones versus swap.

Thanks to everyone for there help

The black top version? With the horse on it? Those are hard to come by. I chanced the two that retained the seat belts to the side walls to chrome so my cover is still all horsies. When I was there over a year ago, Ferrparts in Sacramento had one and I think it was pricey.

As mentioned. If you look at the bottom side you will see two small holes that can be used for unscrewing with the correct tool. The bottom unscrews from the top portion.

Right, the black tops are plastic and have a Ferrari horse logo.

So where does one find such a removal tool and what is it called? An earlier response said to google TENAX --- that worked well for finding the chrome version and there were some "tools" listed but they seemed to be for particular "versions" or perhaps I read it wrong.

You also answered another question for me: I'd always wondered what those lone snaps were on each of the two sides of the back seat area---they were just there stuck on that protruding part in the back seemingly holding nothing----I'll have to learn how they hold the seat belt

Have to try to find the Horse version versus swap since I still have visions of concours events.

I had read in a previous post that you can remove the black plastic piece with the "horse" and put it on new snap body's.
I am very intrigued with the previous comment about the snap post holding the seatbelt. Can some expand on this for me?

PV Dirk mentioned the "seat belt" holder concept. I went out and looked at the car and still couldn't get how that worked though I don't doubt him as I have no better idea on why they're there

I thought about that too---removing the black top and putting it on a plain one but thought I might break it---wonder where that other thread was that you mentioned.

I don't have a single good picture of the rear seats but a couple that may give the idea of what I was talking about. The seat belts at the outboard positions can be pulled up slightly when not in use. The opening on the metal male end goes over then tenax male end on the sidewall. One of the female tenax goes over and holds seatbelt out of the way.

In the first picture you can see the chrome male end peeking out behind the towel with the horsie tenax cap in place. In the second picture you can see where the retracting portion of the seatbelt sits on the armrest when held in place. This keeps it out of the way of the seatbacks when they are moved up or down.

To remove them I used snap ring pliers. Not the right tool but it did have two small pins on it that I was able to space to the bottom of the fasteners holes.

I have posted in the past about taking the black plastic cover off. Just lift very gently at the bottom edge of it with a flat bladed screwdriver, working your way back and forth a bit. It doesn't take much pressure, you won't even mar the plastic. You can put it onto the new snap by just squeezing it between your fingers.

This is where I get them. I'm pretty sure it is the small head german one, but you'd have to measure to be certain

I was laughing at myself the other day: that it never dawned on me when we were on the road and I realized that the clip was likely broken, why I didn't just swap one of the "seat belt" holder clips to use temporarily till we got home instead of letting the cover slap in the wind. Color me stupid!
I'm going to try the paper clip idea before looking for anything else---I've got to try an salvage some sense of ingenuity and adaptiveness.
Thanks for the last picture--mystery solved
