At the risk of exposing my inexperience with electrical matters I respectfully pose this question. I've added pigtails to the batteries in my Ferrari 430 and Carrera for easy hookup to trickle chargers. Works perfectly on the Ferrari, but the battery on the Carrera has progressively discharged since I hooked it up rather than charged. Am I missing something obvious? I greatly appreciate any insights.

    Dave, 2006 Carrera?

There were several that had/have an issue with the dome light switch that would/will allow the small lights on the doors to stay illuminated. That will overrule your trickle charger.

Double check that the small lights on the door have extinguished while the charger is attached.

Just went thru this on an older 911 today.......aarrggghhh.......

The car is is sitting my condo parking garage with a battery that is now soooo dead I can't even get the interior lights to work after having it on a wimpy azzed battery "tender" for 30 hours !! Off to Walmart tomorrow AM for a new battery........and if you've ever had to change a battery on an older <1989 model year 911 it is a PITA. Apparently the clock in the car is what does it after about 3 weeks of being left parked.

    &^$%^@!!+*(&T$%.......

    Kds,

I was just performing a battery draw test on a 1986 Carrera the other day. When I had the multimeter hooked up I found like "clockwork" the multimeter milli-amps reading would go from 9 milli to 15 milli - each second. I was baffled to why the draw was jumping like that repeatedly, each second, but then I thought of the darn clock!

It was the clock of course but I find that even 50 milli-amps will be okay so the car went down the road.

    Crazy old cars.

remove the "pigtails" from your battery and check the resistance between the two leads with a continuity tester. i predict you will easily disprove this theory by showing there is infinite resistance (i.e. an open circuit) between the leads.
