I decided to try some Mothers carnauba this morning out of curiosity on my red 328 vs the Zaino that I normally use. As I was doing so, one of the local marina denizens came by with a can of Collinite and a bottle of Mequiars NXT wax, saying, "Let's try this!". So I put the Mothers on the left side panel from the rear of the car forward to the rear end of the window grill, the NXT from end of the grill to the door, the collonite from the rear end of the door to the mirror. The rest was the Zaino from last year. At that point there was a small group of "unbiased" observers. After buffing all of them with a different clean microfiber cloth we all carefully examined the results from all angles.

One person thought he could see that the collonite was not as "transparent" as the others. The rest of us weren't sure but after a lot of looking, decided he MIGHT be right. No one could tell any difference in the appearance of the others. The NXT felt more slippery when you moved your fingers over it than did the rest The Zaino was more slippery than the collonite/mothers but less so than the NXT. HOWEVER, no new Zaino had been applied so what was on there was from last October.

Obviously I have no idea of longevity but I didn't care for the less slippery surface of the carnauba products compared with the NXT or Zaino.

So at the moment I have 2/3 of a car with 7 month-old Zaino, and 1/3 with adjacent panels of old Zaino, new Mothers, new, Collonite, and new NXT. :)

Meguiars tells you to do the plastic bag test for waxes.
    personally, i think it's baloney.

NXT on the daily beaters - hours & layers of Meguiars professional products on the 308.

somewhere in here somebody posted the results of independant testing on waxes. The Zaino stuff rated highest for durability. Meguire's fared well for both durability and finnish quality.

I'm envious of the time you have available for such a thing.

I usually wax my cars by parking them under a tree and letting them get covered in sap --- although it doesn't appear to be the best product out there :)

Don't dismiss the Collinite. It takes a bit to wipe it out to get clear. I usually hit it with a quick detailer afterwords. Collinite will outlast any Carnuba wax five to one in my personal experience.

Zaino is a an impressive product in that five months or more after it's applied it will still bead/shed water like the day you put it on. Problem i have is that it adds no shine or depth IMO.

The Mothers and car crazy stuff are both easy on and off but don't last the way the others do. Many Zaino users top it (Zaino) with Mothers or similar carnuba to get the best of both worlds. Other Zaino cultist say this will diminish Zaino's protective properties.

I find you can't really judge a polish/wax by a part of a panel but need to do the whole side of a car (especially polymers like zaino or klasse) to truly judge it.

    Playing with wax is fun.

Since none of the freshly applied products I tried this AM look any better than the 7 month old Zaino that was on the car; I'll remain a Zaino user. Wish I hadn't bought the 40 bucks worth of 3 stages of Mother's stuff. Oh well. ;)

I really like the P12S Carnuba wax for cars kept in garages, if kept outdoors or driven daily I have always had luck with Zaino or the Merzerna (sp?) FMJ. Its similar to the Zaino, but slippier to the touch. It doesn't last as long though.

I don't think either of the synthetic sealants can duplicate the depth of shine the P12S creates though. My 2 cents.

"You can mail ME the Mothers kit!"

Send me your mailing address, it'll be on the way (assuming the Post office doesn't have a problem with shipping the wax, the sealer glaze, and the pre wax cleaner)!

+1, I really like P21S...and if you have a local Harley shop, you can get the identical product called S100 in the same exact container, but sells for between $16 and $22 versus $40 at the BMW or Porsche dealer. ;)
