Inasmuch as I do not want to get involved in any legal action, I would rather not post the VIN or the dealer's name on a public forum. Their position may be the way they run their business and it may have worked for them in the past. I suggested that if they had the books and records as they said they could verify the true mileage, but they refused to verify the mileage. Interesting because both of the prior owners lived in Palm Beach County so to determine the actual mileage should be simple enough. Their attitude, and some negative Ebay feedback, caused me some concern. It's not one of the regulars on FC, and its not one of the south Florida authorized Ferrari dearlers. In fact, they suggested that FC was just a bunch Ferrari wannabes, and that no one here owned one, so I should not pay attention to the critical comments made on this forum about their cars.

The original auction had already expired while I was negotiating for the car, so I was not interfering with the seller's ability to sell the car. All of my negotiations were in writing on a word processor. They subsequently listed it a second time, it failed to reach its reserve although it reached what I believe to be the current fair market price. And that number was about $7000 thousand less than I agreed to pay as I calculated for the time and cost of buyng a car out of the area, and then added some $$ for convenience.

The car is currently on Ebay for the third time.

Now I am looking at one quite a distance away, at a much more reasonable price, and I have also enlisted the help of Cavallino Motors in Miami.

We'll see how this story unfolds.

I purchased my Boxer from a private individual. I had looked at a couple cars with dealers but it always seemed like it was going to be "work" to purchase these cars. The Boxer for me is a "fun" hobby. I wanted the whole process to be enjoyable. The individual I bought my car from had the same mind set as I did. He was more than willing to pass on a ton of info not just about my car in detail but in Boxers in general. I truly enjoyed the purchase and drove home with complete confidence in my new Boxer. If you have the time, I would suggest hunting for an individual selling a car. Besides, did you really want a red dash??

If I were you I'd walk on the Boxer. I found my TR on ebay, but made a deal with the dealer over the phone. I was given all the records, talked to AZ Ferrari mechanic. Then I flew down they picked me up, I inspected the car and reviewed more records and the engine out service data, went for a test drive. I bought it and I had it in two days. Very Clean deal from Tino Ferrulli at Phoenix Motor Company (Mercedes dealer in Phoenix). Keep looking. Good Luck!
    Ciao,
    Jim

PPI's...we can all tell ourselves all day long about how honest we all are, but in the end, everyone wants more for less, regardless of what a buyer or a seller may say. Bottom line on PPI's...there's only upside for the buyer (no downside), and only downside for the seller (in the long run, no upside). I sell airplanes, where ppi's are prevelant also, and most airplanes now are old, and complex machines. I encourage prospects to bring their own mechanics and do a ppi for themselves at my place of business, not their's, they can't take the plane, (only downside for me). As for deposits, I've gotten to the point of just refusing them across the board, refundable or not, doesn't matter. Whether a buyer's willing to give a deposit has no bearing on whether I'll hold the plane for them. I don't want they're money if they don't want the plane, and I'll hold it for them or not, on a case by case basis. If these policies make me crooked or hiding something in their eyes, well, I guess I'm crooked. And if they cost me a sell, then it just wasn't meant to be. Myself?..I strive for upside for everone us all. Downside for nobody.

    But who asked me anyway.

to me the only way to buy a car is to go see it yourself, unless you know someone you trust who can inspect it for you. I have bought several Ferraris in my years, and even bought two sight unseen at the height of the market in the late eightees. One was mint, I kept it for a while and sold it for a solid profit...the other was not mint, so I spent a lot of time paying to have it straightened out and finally sold it for a big loss 15 years later. If the seller has records and you inspect or have the car inspected...that would work for me. I think this PPI is overdone...in my humble opinion. Remember, no new car is perfect, and no used car is perfect either....
