I would also plan to have lunch at the Cavallino Restaurant across from the factory.

Have your dealer set up the factory tour, it's the absolute best experience. Access is
limited so ask now for a June date. There is also a place that rents Ferrari's, it's right next door to the museum. We rented a 458 for 30 minutes, $150 US.

Nice to hear you scheduled your tour already. I'm going to the factory Monday, September 3, 2012. Hope you post information regarding your experience.

Visited the factory on June 18th. The factory itself is very cool. But the experience was different then expected for sure. You have to meet for the tour at the museum( nobody tells you) You are in a group of 25 people(thought it was private) It feels like a live tour exactly like the virtual one online. You walk in a single file line in between 2 yellow lines like cattle. They take your cameras on the bus ride in but not your cell phones,so you can take all the pictures you want. We had a Tommy Bahama look alike openly snapping his butt off with his flash! We brought 2 friends into the tour with us that never were asked or treated any different then us(me and wife). My favorite part was the 599XX area, they were moving cars around and it sounds like a symphony. It is not worth going to Italy for but Italy is worth going to any freakin way you can get there! Another piece of advice "don't think about money while you are there!" Wait until you get home or how much things cost will be annoying, for example to iron your shirt and pants cost 27 euro(35$) since there are NO irons allowed in any hotel. Also make sure if your coming from America you sign up for "trusted traveler" thru Customs, Wow what a time saver!!!

Spend some time outside on the public streets and hopefully there will be quite a few Ferrari's and Lambo's driving by in spirited fashion. That was the case when I visited about 5 years ago. Always fun to see an exotic open the taps :).

Respectfully, Cavallino is o.k., food. It's an icon and I went there myself. Bumped into one Eric Clapton as well, 'nother story that.

GO to Montana Restaurant. This is a must do and try the 30 year old balsamic, it's epic. The walls are covered with Ferrari F1 noses and photographs.

    And....

Yes, yes I did...I just called vinegar epic.

Do you need factory invite AND pay fee or is invited tour comped? I take it that if you also want to visit museum you pay entrance fee, right? Is the bus tour of the grounds for a fee separate from the invited tour? So confusing. Will check out both Cavallino and Montana. Anything else of interest there?

Visited Maranello on July 4th on our way to Positano.

A visit to Maranello is OK if your plans take you near Modena. I did not do the Factory tour, as I've had friends visit with diminished expectations.

We drove in from Monaco the prior evening and found ourselves in a " no room availability " situation, as there are quite a few business travelers due to the Industrial aspect of the region, nevertheless we where referred by the staff at Maranello Village to a new family run hotel " Locanda La Gazzella " ( http://www.locandalagazzella.it/ ". If you are looking for a modern, comfortable, secured private parking, competitively priced hotel, you can't go wrong with this Hotel.

The museum / galleria is just OK, as I expected to see a bit more variety and the obvious heavy merchandising of the " made in China " Ferrari Branded merchandise. We had a fairly good meal at Cavallino with the highlight of the day being a drive in a California by my 76 year old father in law ... oh yeah $125.00 US for 15 minutes, well he got a big thrill out of it, so it was worth it.

If driving, be aware of the parking !

You will see individuals in Ferrari garb directing you to park in various areas beyond the museum. These individuals are various competing vendors looking to sell you " drives " and have " 0 " concern for your car should you decide to decline their offer. There is a 3 hour parking limit in designated areas, be sure to write down the arrival time on a piece of paper and put it on the dashboard to avoid fines and or towing.

Obviously as a Ferrari owner a bucket list item, and happy with having visited Maranello.

Reality .... " zero " Ferraris on the streets or roads leading to Maranello, in fact from my drive through Europe ( Barcelona - Positano ) I saw a total of " 2 " Ferraris (1) 360 in Barcelona, (1) 430 on the Autostrada ..... this excludes Monaco, where I saw over 15 F-Cars, mainly 458s and 599s.

At least us 360 owners are acknowledged at the museum and Ferrari store ... no 348, no 355, no CS, no scuds, just a lonely 1/1 360 Barchetta built as a gift for Pininfarina at the museum and a couple of 360 parts hanging as decoration at various F-Stores..

In addition to the fees $ 100.00 , do realize it is a process through Homeland Security involving a personal interview at a designated Point of Entry, chosen on your application.

It is not a " just pay " and you become a " Trusted Traveler ". In essence you are signing a contract with the US Government that allows certain flexibility when arriving from trips abroad in which you are held to a higher standard of knowing and obeying all laws.

Something as simple as bringing in an un-declared piece of fruit will be frowned upon, hence the " Trusted Traveler " status.

In addition, if you are traveling with family, each member must be in the program.

If you have significant international travel, it is well worth the enrollment process.

Ive been going to marenello for 20+ years, and what once was a special, very personal experience is nothing more than an assembly line of tourists, followed by a merchandising exercise and profit center.

Fortunately, over the years, I now have friends who live in the area, own shops, etc., which keeps it personal for me.

..... at a minimum if the $80.00 T-shirts where made in Italy you might feel a " bit " better, but the Made in China tag , well ?

If you get a factory tour set up through the dealer then the musuem is free. The Enzo musuem in Modena does cost extra (I personally don't think it was worth it)
