Trivia quiz

In a desperate attempt to keep the panEurope thread up and running here's a little quiz. Name this car, its history and the Ferrari link. I took the picture today at an Italian car show at a car museum in Warsaw.

Quiz is closed to all Polish fchatters - sorry guys it would be too easy ;-)

Winner gets a round of ice cold Żywiec on me next time they're in Warsaw or a bottle of Żubrówka if they're in Tuscany in June.

Congrats Simon - a cold beer awaits you in Poland. The history of the car was that the Lancia Stratos driven by Andrzej Jaroszewicz crashed in the Polish Rally in 1977. FSO engineers used the remains of that car and merged them with a new box chassis mated to a Polonez shell. The car was notorious for awful handling because of the skewed weight distribution but the power on the straights made it quite competitive and it was raced until 1985.

It's not Daewoo any more. When Daewoo went bust FSO ended up being sold to Avto ZAZ, a Ukrainian (ex Soviet) car company that used to make the Zaprozhets a strange vehicle based loosely on the NSU Prinz.

Daewoo invested quite heavily in the FSO plant which is now quite modern and its main problem is it has no product. They are currently making the old Lanos models under licence from GM and are also ramping up contract production for GM of the Chevrolet Aveo and other small GM/KoreanChevrolet models.

It's also in a big dispute with the European Commission which is trying to force them to decrease production capacity as penalty for illegal public aid which FSO received from the Polish government.

This is the best pic I found of the two cars yesterday (taken by someone as I was leaving). I was parked a bit further away from the Polonez.
