Trivia: Which "60 Minutes" correspondent had a Ferrari?

I test drove M. Safer's silver 308 about 4 yrs. ago in charlotte. It had a photo of him in the car. It was at a big used car place that had some guido guys selling the cars. I ended up flying to AZ. to get a better example, but later saw the car at a local show in Charlotte. The new owner had put a really nice new tan interior in the car, which it needed. He seemed thrilled to have the car and I assume he still has it in the Charlotte area.

Another guy in Charlotte had Rod Halfer, the Metal God himself's black 308. He got lots of jokes about black lights and Jiz....

I can confirm this as true.

My friends father modified the car for him back in the 80's. If I recall correctly it was white.

It might of also had Boxer paint, white upper with black lowers, but I can't say this for sure as it's been thirty years since I've seen or heard about the car and the memory of it is fuzzy.

I had seen it when it was being built and was told repeatedly who it was for but never met him. My friend however received some drum lessons from the owner as the 308 was being modified.

The owners name was John Panozzo. He passed back in 1996. He was the drummer for Styx

The mods I remember was it had been fitted with a grill that resembled a boxer grill.

The other one sounds straight out of James Bond. I had been told about it many times but never actually saw it work. I believe it to be true as, once again, I had been told about it many times as the car was being modified, Drum roll..... Apparently Panozzo had my friends father build some sort of sliding window thing that would hide the license at the push of a button.

Sounds far fetched I know, but I am pretty sure that it isn't.

As far as what else was done to the car, I don't know, but could prob find out more if I give my childhood friend a call.

No idea what number the car was but would have most likely been registered in the Chicago area, probably Hinsdale, in the early 80's.

I seem to remember the silver Morley Safer 308 being advertised On F40's website a while back.

 

I looked at the Safer car about 8-9 months ago, the owner was thinking about selling, not sure if he ever did, I'll have to contact him to see if he still has it.

Anyone know the chassis# of Halfords car or any other celebrities for that matter.

I have an old in car video from a FCA track event at Bridgehampton , where I was on track with my old 308 with Morley Safer in his silver 308 . I think mid 80's . man i an old . Fun track though , long trip getting there !

i own the Morley Safer car now, I would love to have a picture of him with the car. I have attempted to contact him or his agent through various websites and even mailed him a letter via snail mail to the address listed in the pile of receipts. No luck

No, I did not directly buy from him, I am the number 4 owner. I have a rock solid ownership history from Mr. Safer, with all of the receipts, which was the main reason I bought this example a few years ago. We drive and enjoy it. We have it enterted into the "Keels and Wheels" Concous show in Houston in May and are very active locally organizing shows. See post in SE sub group, post " Italian Motor Gathering"

When I test drove the car in Charlotte, the picture of safer was in the manuals pouch.

 

Do you remember the piece Morley did on Lamborghini? It was really great.

On an anniversary 60 Minutes show(mighta been 20yr, late 1980s-1990-ish), when Morley was interviewed, they showed him driving around some Connecticut wooded area in a blue 328GTS. IF I'm right(who knows?), them maybe he sold the 308 when he picked up the 328.

Blue color was light, powder blue. I get the blue color names mixed up, so not sure what to call it.

Anyone have info on him owning a 328 ??
