well, i went through all the old treads on my issue with my 308 not firing up all of a sudden. turned out that the fuel pump fuse was not making good contact. i still don't know why my front bank of plugs was not firing but at least it starts. could it be that my car will run on just four cylinders firing? i will check tomorrow. this site is amazing. thanks for all of your suggestions.

BINGO! Been there, done that....which is why I (and others) thought we'd recommend thoroughly checking the fuses / connections, as it is a simple fix / solution. Very glad to hear you got her running again...and hope you're able to get the front bank problem sorted -- sounds like a defective coil or loose cable connection at the coil (?). Have you tried swapping the coil cables around to isolate and rule out a bad coil? Just a thought...

EDIT: Oops, I guess I was referring to an earlier seperate thread started by 308Chas that was along the same topic -- here's the link:

    Sorry for the confusion... :)

Sounds very familiar. Yes - your car will start and run fine on 4 cylinders, but remember you're dumping raw gas through the other side. You car has one ECU, so that's not it. As before, the common things are a coil, or something in the cap, rotor or wires. As you've discovered, it's always good to re-seat the connectors.
Good luck, and have a Carlilse's BBQ for me on 6th Ave South.!
