This seems contrary to what Eric was saying...

So, if we split the difference, the brake is required only IF the gearbox is in 1st?

I can confirm that for euro version paddle 360s, you do not have to brake to start the car if you are in N.
I can confirm that for US version stick 360s, you do not have to brake to start the car regardless of what gear you are in. You can be in 6th gear and still be able to start the car if you press down clutch pedal.

Thanks. The stick version is fairly straightforward with no hidden components (other than the internals of the immobiliser). It's the logic in the F1 TCU which is a bit of a mystery (to me).

Anyway, the problem seems to have gone away. For me, this is just curiosity.

I can tell you this with 100 percent certainty. My car would not start while the transmission was in 1st gear with or without the brake pedal pressed. That is where I started this whole journey. “Trouble starting my 360.” I used my Foxwell to take my car out of 1st gear and into neutral after witch it started. When the car was in 1st gear I would not even get a click nothing happed at all.

Eric seems to be backing up what I’m saying. He just added his knowledge of the stick shift with a clutch pedal to the equation. My car does not have a clutch pedal.

Maybe when I could not start mine at the beginning it was because the TCU did not register that I was stepping on the brake and now if I try to start my car in 1st I would have to step on the brake but I usually put the car in neutral when I park it.
