So I buy a set of wheels and uni-directional tires to put on my daughters Civic from TireRack.com. They arrive and I discover they are all 4 mounted for the right side of the car. Mounting tires is all these guys do, and they mount 2 backwards. It's all they do. This is not brain surgery. So now I'm stuck. I suspect tomorrow when I talk with them, they will say to take 2 to the local tire shop, turn them around and send the bill. Nope. Not the answer. First off, the local tire shop's going to have no interest in doing this, second they will probably scratch the rims out of spite, and third they probably won't use the same type of weights. I paid extra for 2nd day FedEx on the tires. MY solution: Send out 2 more tires and wheels mounted correctly OVER NIGHT FedEx and pick up the 2 incorrect at my office at the same time. I already packed them up, ready for pick up. Do you think that is a reasonable request since I needed them yesterday, and paid extra for fast shipping?
DONT LOSE SLEEP OF IT, DOC CALL THEM TOMORROW AND CALMY RESOLVE IT, IF THEY ARE NOT BEING HELPFULL, CALL YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY AND TELL THEM INVESTIGATE NO WORRIES MAN BRUCE
If you really need them yesterday, then I'd just take them somewhere and have them remounted. I always order my tires from tiretrack and take them to a local tire shop to have them mounted - they don't mind one bit. They gladly take my money for mounting and balancing. Then, ask tirerack to credit your CC for at least that amount. Surely the shop isn't going to scratch your rims out of spite. It sucks it just wasn't right in the first place, but it seems to me the easiest way to resolve the problem is to just fix it yourself and ask for a credit.
Sounds like you need to find a new tire shop if they do things like that. Be sure and ask tirerack to give you reasonable $ for the time wasted fixing this error.
ALSO A BIG PLUS IS USING AMEX...THEY ARE GREAT FOR HELPING CUSTOMERS PS...SINCE IT WAS ALL MOUNTED FOR THE RIGHT SIDE, LET THEM CREDIT YOU FOR THE 2ND DAY FREIGHT OR ALL FREIGHT CHARGES SINCE IT WAS NOT CORRECT BRUCE
You could also just keep the 2 extra right tires and when you need to get tires again just order 2 lefts. Civic tires can't be that much, maybe $100 each.

Ask Tirerack which local tire shop they recommend. You'd be surprised how many do mounting for Tirerack. If the local shop does mess up and scratches a wheel I think Tirerack will make it right. Also, as I have driving daughters too, if you just look at the wheels a month after she uses them they will have nice curb-rash.
I've had tires from TireRack mounted at Sam's Club. Their work was fine and it was inexpensive, something like $9/tire.
As a biz owner, I try to do right by customers, but its hard to swallow a big loss for a customer (like overnighting more tires and refunding 2nd day costs). I always try to give good companies some leeway if I can, and I know TireRack is a good company. Personally, what I would do is ask for a recommendation for a local shop to help out and voice my concern about scratched wheels. If the tires were needed and 2nd day was ordered, overnighting more tiree doesn't get them there quicker than getting a local shop to fix the screwup. I'd also make sure the guy/girl at the tire place knew I was concerned about scratches and took precautions. IT's not hard to mount a tire without scratching the wheel - just needs a little care. Of course Tire Rack should pay that tab, and if I were them I'd toss a discount on a future order your way too - maybe cut their normal profit margin in half and give you an approptiate discount to effect that on a future order.
Talked with them this AM. Appears they are going to do the right thing, 2nd day out 2 more tires, send a pick up for the 2 incorrect tires. If they follow through, this will be 2 big thumbs up for TireRack.
