    Hello, Well here it is...
    1989 328 GTS.
    Car was NOT running.
While I was wiping down the Steering wheel causing it to rock gently back & forth (lock to lock),
my ANTI-LOCK brake light went on and a buzzing sound was coming from the front end. light and sound lasted about 15 sec.
I was able to reproduce it once more after it stopped.

What was that all about?? Could it be a frayed wire that was being shorted by the movement of the steering linkage?

I did not start the 328 after this.

    Thanks for the input. John.

How long since the last time you started it? When mine sits for a long time, and the key is turned (which unlocks the steering wheel), the pump will run and "charge" the system. Or after it has sat for awhile, I reconnect the battery, and the pump runs.

The car was not running, but the battery was connected and the key turned? Maybe just the pump running, which it does after long sitting spells when the key is first turned. That is the normal startup check, pump runs, light does self test. If it stopped, the light went out, no leaks, it sounds okay.

A few years ago, mine had an internal leak at a valve, and it would do it much more often, to put fluid back into the ABS system that drained out. The ABS light was always on, indicating the reservoir was a little low.

I believe there is a very sensitive connection in the ignition cylinder. The ABS light and accompanying buzzing sound would sometimes occur in my car after I turned it off. A couple of times, I had to turn the key a little harder to the left to make it go out. Interestingly, this issue stopped completely a few years ago. I would go ahead and drive it. I don't think anything bad could happen.

I would be inclined to attempt to spray some electrical contact cleaner into the switch and see if flushing it out might improve things. Use lots of rags to keep the spray off the dash/instruments, and painted surfaces.

I drove the car just a week ago. AWESOME.

The key was not in the ignition when this happened. The car was "off."

    Thanks for the input.

similar has happened to my car off/on over the years. I've just ignored it, hasn't made any difference in anything.
