    Hi,
I am wondering where I can buy hides that are truly in ferrrari saddle color. I have been searching the therads and find many pictures of interiors that are reffered to as saddle colored interiors but when I put all the pictures next to each other they all look completely different; It could just be aging or digital cameras playing tricks but who knows a place where I can order hides that are truly saddle colored?

    Thanks,
    Helmut

    Hi Helmut,
Are you looking for tanned leather hides, or a complete interior leather replacement kit? I've bought leather hides in bulk from Tandy Leather, but there is some variation in color across the hide. I used some heavy saddle leather last summer to make some tooled leather floormats for my Mondial. I painted the Ferrari Cavallino onto the front mats (with black leather dye) and the name "Ferrari" onto the smaller rear mats. They look pretty nice! Anyway, they have soft leather as well which is more like the seat leather in your car.

    Hi Thor,

I called tandyleather today and they didn't seem to know much about ferrari colors and had very little selection; I also called world upholstery and they told me that the color "saddle" was the most common for the 308/328. After checking out pictures on here I realised that there seems to be a wide variety on what the color "saddle" looks like so I am confused as to what color truly resembles "saddle".

I am about to redo the entire interior on my 78 308. I haven't been able to find presewn 78 seats that I can simply install so I am having them made and installed.

I like your artwork by the way.

here's an interesting fact, true saddle color comes from mushed up cow brains that the hide is cooked in, then it is smoked to dry to lock in the dye. spinal fluid gives it that color.

chemicals i suppose but you never know. apperantly the spinal fluid is best as it treats the hide and keeps soft and durable.

These guys are great. When I wanted to buy tan leather to cover a speaker box to match my Testarossa's interior, I contacted these guys. They sent me a little envelope with a bunch of different color swatches in it. I just matched mine and then ordered the hide. It's as close as two different dye batches could ever be. Expensive, but good service and good product.

GAHH has the Ferrari colors and offers seat kits as well as conv tops.

    Good stuff, fits well.

Their web site does pretty well in accurately representing the colors.

If in doubt pick a couple and they will send you samples.

No, I don't expect Tandy Leather had any idea what the seat colors are in a Ferrari, or what leather to even start with. Here in Idaho the saddles I see are all kinds of colors. "Saddle Leather" is more a description of weight and quality rather than color.

Thanks for the compliment on my artwork! I'll have a couple of new pieces to show off here in a week or so.

I actually ended up buying 2 hides from GAHH here in North Hollywood. They have great stuff. I also ordered the carpet set from them.
The seats are still being worked on and so is the carpet kit but I will keep you guys informed on how it turns out.
