I replaced the bulb that lights up the trunk/boot but it does not seem to work with the key in or out of the ignition and the lid up. Could this be on a single fuse? All other lights are working just fine. Thanks.

Sometimes I forget to re-attach the plug on the back of the lamp after removing the luggage liner for maintenance. By the way, does the 348 need to have the parking lights or other lights on to activate the luggage compartment light?

I don't know if the labelling is correct in the 348 wiring diagrams, but the front luggage compartment lighting is associated with the parking lights on warning indicator (on the centre vertical console). If you can get the parking light "on" indicator light to illuminate, then the luggage compartment light should work.

    (Edit: Just cross-posted. Thanks, Gaetan :) )

I checked and the two plugs are in. I’ll have to see if they are activated by other lights. I wouldn’t think so however.

    Gaeton says yes.

Have you tried it with the ignition on? Doesn't make sense, but the F348 and F355 diagrams suggest the ignition must be on.

I just tried this but nothing. I also switched the leads and nothing. The glove box light does work. Is there an actuator by the deck lit that turns it on when opened? I’m stumped. Thanks

    Regarding your luggage compartment light:

Do you have a digital multimeter to check voltages and resistances?

If so, remove the luggage compartment lamp (bulb) and check for 12 volts (dc) on the lamp holder contact which is attached to the white wire (Make sure the ignition is on and the sidelights are on using the steering column stalk switch). You'll need to put the black multimeter probe on a known good earth (ground) on the car. If ok, then check the resistance from the contact on the lamp holder which corresponds to the black wire to a known good earth. Do you have a low resistance?

The wiring for the luggage compartment light is quite complex. The power sequence is:

Battery > relay B in footwell > fuse 10 > wiring from fuse panel to tachometer connector* > wiring to left hand instrument panel connector* > wiring to light > bulb > wiring to earth

*power doesn't go through the connectors, but is spliced at the connectors. That is, if the connectors are disconnected, the luggage compartment light will still work.

Relay B is your "external lighting" relay. The coil of the relay is energised when the ignition is on and the lights are turned on (via the steering column stalk switch). With your lights on, the green "exterior lights" indicator on your instrument panel should be illuminated. If it is illuminated, then this leaves the following possibilities:

The wiring from your dashboard to the luggage light is faulty
    The lamp is faulty
The earth for the lamp is faulty.

IIRC, the exterior lights need to be on for the trunk lamp to work. Try that and let us know if it solves your problem.

Thank you for everyone’s assistance. The only way it works is with the headlights on. I would have never guessed!

Glad you got it worked out. The easiest fix is not having to fix anything after all.

Interesting. I would have thought sidelights would have been sufficient.
