    Hello,

The trunk release switch (button) situated on the dash of my 550 does not work any more. I am forced to use the manual trunk opener situated under the rear self. Is this a complicated and expensive repair? Can it be a DIY repair? Any comments on the probable cause and how to repair it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

I don't think we have any wiring diagrams for the trunk release on the 550. I believe it uses fuse 24, so check that isn't blown (although you'd get a lot more other things not working if it was blown). Is your clock working? Hazard lights? Door lights? As far as I know, there are no relays involved. Power goes directly to the actuator from the switch.

It's most likely an actuator issue, but you could try interchanging the switch with one of the other switches. e.g. the gas tank filler flap switch.

When the trunk is open, and you actuate the button, can you hear the actuator operating/clicking?

Cheap new actuator here if you need one (assuming you're in the USA).

If worse comes to worse, you can swap the fuel filler door switch for the trunk switch so you can tell if it is indeed the switch that is bad.
