Hi all, I think I have the wrong strut in my trunk - for one, it does not appear to open far at all (I get less than a 45 degree angle I think) and it certainly doesn't hold it open with the wing on: Image Unavailable, Please Login That makes it look like it's wide open but it's not - it's barely at 45 degrees. This URL makes me think something is wrong with the gas strut: https://www.madmechanics.com/forum/filedata/fetch?id=378814 Do I just need a new strut?
The link is an LP400 using a slider or runner (correct for those cars) as opposed to a gas strut. The Downdraft appears to be as open as it should be, the heavy wing is a challenge to hold open although you may need a new strut.
Wow - ok. Feels like the trunk is about 16" deep, but I'd be lucky to fit a 12" bag through the gap - it's pretty restrictive.
Since that video Harry has gotten rid of the wing and therefore the need for a stick, without the former the trunk-lid pops up and stays up, will report on mine soon.
I'm not sure mine is much better than yours, maybe a little, I didn't have time to measure it as we're having a hectic Monday. I love the hammer marks from the car's original construction, the era of the hand-built sports car. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I find the aperture of the trunk sufficient for using it regularly as I do. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Joe - looks about the same to me. Interestingly, I think my strut is opposite to yours - gas chamber fixed to the car, not to the trunk lid.
Once i took my wing off, my gas strut was too strong for the lesser weight of the wingless lid. It actually bent up in the rear where the strut is located I installed a lighter strut wich kinda fixed the issue
Yes I see that on your images, I'm not sure reversing the unit will make any difference, I think a stronger strut would be helpful though.
Checked mine as I too have a wing, pics below. Looks to be similar clearence. R Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you - at least I know I probably have the right strut. Just makes putting the case of wine in the boot more difficult on a trip to the winery! I see also that your strut is mounted the same way as mine - opposite to Joes.
You'll just have to take the bottles out of the case! Not sure there is a right or wrong way to mount the strut, guess it was down to whoever did it at the time and whether or not it was before or after their boozy Italian lunch . . .
