I had a free afternoon so I thought I would try to buff up the top panel of my TS. This is a challenge because they are made of fiberglass with a raised surface which grabs and hold on to whatever you rub into it. Getting off waxes is most challenging. Ask me how I learned this. :)

So in the end, I discovered that Maguires Plastic Window Polish is the perfect cleaner. Pour it on the top and polish with terry cloth for a few minutes using circular strokes, working in 6-8" squares. Rub the stuff off immediately and move on to the next area. The stuff dries clear with no residue, but you are taking it off before it dries anyway. The finish looks great and it nearly removes the scars.

I should have mentioned that using a rubber treatment product such as SoaG and ArmourAll is a very temporary one and adds oil to a finish that is not rubberized. Those products are designed to rehydrate plastic and rubber trim, not polish fiberglass. Also, using a detailer is ok for a quick buff up, but hardly has a lasting effect. I don't know how Maguires will work out in the long end so I am watching the finish and will report back later.

It looks good on the top pic :) ....... maybe a detailer/spray-on wax will help seal the freshly polished surface?

Thanks, Vince. I had some on the shelf for the Jeep. I put it on my top and I like the result very much, except that now I have to wax the car so it'll look as good as the top!

I'm beginning to hate this thread. Did the top, it made the rest of the car look like it needed a wax. Waxed the car, then the interior needed attention. If I have to do an engine-out service because of Vince's top cleaner idea, I'm gonna be p-o'ed!

Its the begining of the end Bruce ........... if one doesn't nip it in the bud now ............. after the 'engine-out service' ..... one will end up having to start taking showers, wearing unbuttoned satin shirts/polyester bell bottoms, gold necklaces, grow a 'fu-man-chu' w/porkchop sideburns .... wear mirrored 'reno 911' sunglasses ........ then finally 'hair gel' ........

Hows the best looking 348 doing ?? :)

Awesome :)!!! After the detail party Vince will be buying the stooge crew sandwiches at Laura's ........ :D!!!

You'll probably laugh, but the best stuff on the rear slats, the top, and the black paint on the rear deck is mineral oil .. seriously. It also works well on the black paint in the radiator vents and the door sills as well.
