Im thinking about installing a used tubi in great shape, but keeping the factory cats. I have read somewhere that test pipes cause a lot of heat that has caused the ekg/smog sensors to burn out.Any comments would be welcome
    thanks in advance

Did you finally get a 348? If so, congrats!

Installing test pipes on a 348 will do a few things for you:
    - no message lights
    - less back-pressure / more flow / possibly more HP
    - better sound
    - less heat
    - no CATS to catch fire!!!

Tubi with test pipes sound awesome!Might be alittle too loud if you have a spider or,your garage is attached to the house!

I'd catch hell if I started the car in the garage! My solution is to push it out into the drive.
Unfortunately for me, when I start her up, the exhaust tips are pointing at the bedroom window....
Oh well. It's not like I can hurry up and get out of there - these things need warmed up.

The PPI went better than I had expected! I should have the 348 by the weeks end. As it turns out the used Tubi exhaust had a crack in it and was re-welded. So I passed on it. The 30K is being done this week and while the motor is out Im have a new Tubi installed at the sametime. I was kicking the idea around of replacing the cats with "High" flow cats, Im not sure if I read it here or somewhere else that they flow only 4% less than test pipes, and I wany have the hassle of having the vehicle smog every other year. Any information would be great
    tahnks in advance.

    Hi Victor

I have the Tubi and Hyper-flow cats combination on my 348 spider. I did the cats since the stock ones on my car had been gutted and I needed to pass smog in California. Since I had to buy cats anyway I went with the Hyper-flows, which are advertised to flow only 4% less than test pipes. I guess it has to be true or they couldn't say it... Since I never had proper cats on mine, I assume it was louder than normal, but certainly with my Tubi/Hyperflows, it sounds magnificent. I would like to hear someone's car with Tubi and test pipes for a comparison but I certainly am happy and as you say, I won't have the smog hassle with my cats on. However, you can get a pretty good deal on test pipes through HG Parts, for example, and the Hyperflows retail at nearly $800 each so they are not cheap.

Enjoy your 348 - I am really loving my car despite what the uninformed masses seem to think about them!!

    Cheers
    Kevin

    Echoing Dave's statement:

    Test pipes = less heat.

Also, you avoid the potential cat-fire situation (most common way our classic Ferraris catch fire)

    Hi Guys,

I have just bought a '93 348 Spider and am trying to find out which exhaust set up is generally considered to give the closest to an F1 sound.

The main contender is always going to be a de-catted Tubi . I know most of the makes and options available, but can anyone actually say "Yeah, I heard/have a 348 with (XXX) on and it gave an awesome high pitched howl"

I know it's a really open question guys, but any opinions gratefully received.

Do I presume that whatever I do, to get the best sound, de-cat is the way to go?

    thanks,
    al
