Is it possible for the tubi, over time, to quiet down? It seems like my car isnt as loud as it was before. I took a long trip at some pretty high speeds to open it up, and was hoping that it would get even louder.

Anyone have any idea's about bumping up the sound level? I've read about several options with the ferrari's, but how do they sound on the maserati.

My original salesman at FOBH advised against further modifications as it may be unpleasant.

If it gets REALLY old there *may* be some buildup. Your ear may have gotten used to it and tuned it down. (Similar to how you can slowly turn up a stereo very loud and not mind as much, but if you turn it off for a minute, say for a toll booth or something, and turn it back on you are jarred by the volume.)

If you are looking for more sound, think of either testpipes (notable increase), high flow cats (not as much as if you went with the pipes, but no check engine light), or exhaust manifold headers (more so then either of the others). Tubi may make the headers, but I am not sure. I know they make them for 512TRs and 355's though, not that that helps. :p

What kind of car do you have? I'm making some headers and test pipes for the Maserati Coupe/Spyder soon.

    I have the 2004 coupe.

How much of an increase would you say with the hi-flow cats, and is this something the dealer can install?

You know, I was thinking of additional upgrades when I first had the tubi installed and my salesman really suggested I not go that route because he felt the sound became a bit "lawnower" when the cat's are removed.

Julian, did you add the test pipes and tubi at the same time or did you have the tubi first? I would be curious as to the difference in tone. I like the deep sound the tubi makes, just would like it louder.

It's a very straight forward install with hi-flow cats. I wouldn't listen to salesman usually they don't know much (except for a few). I don't see your car sounding like a lawnmower from it though. I don't care what you do at the end of the day it's a V8 and good luck making a V8 sound like a lawnmower.

I know what you mean about the lawnmower analogy. I couldnt see it either, but I think he meant it becomes obtrusive, I'm not sure really.

What setup do you have on your car now. Do you know if test pipes and/or hi-flow cats will retain the deep sound the tubi alone has?

    Thanks,

I'm all stock I'm doing exhaust manifolds, test pipes, and exhaust this winter though. Reason I don't do it sooner is because everything is going to be prototyped off my car so I'm looking at some serious downtime.

Usually test pipes give it a higher pitched sound in the mid range rpm's. I have never heard them on the Maserati so I have no idea but really I think it'll sound fine.

    Regards,
    Kevin

    Greg,

I installed the test pipes at the same time. However, I had to put them back on before for smog and the sound was much more quiet. Trust me, you can't go wrong with the test pipes !

    Greg,

I guess I didn't answer your other question - my 348 sounds like a F1 car at high rev so you get the idea... it's more of a high pitch than a loud muscle car.
