Hi Guys, I've tried searching fo this, but tbh there are a lot of threads with the word tubi in it. Does anyone know what the lowdown is for exhaust system requirements, preferably in Sydney? Thx, Rob
tubi legal = no. but cops think they are a stock item / unsure of the stock ferrari set up, so everyone gets away with it. and buy direct from OS and save $$$$$ here is your man Manu Sachdeva Scuderia Systems (UK) Limited Claymore House 8 High Street Egham Surrey TW20 9EA United Kingdom www.tubistyle.co.uk www.scuderiasystems.com Tel:+44 1784 43 43 95/94 Mobile: +44 7944 772 954 Fax: +44 1784 43 43 90 i bought a tubi for my LP, with no issues.
My Tubi has just been past for a RWC which was issued by Ferrari amongst normal items to check for. The certificate has to be in place before ownership can be changed. Manu in the UK is a wonderful guy for really helpful, caring information.....nothing too much trouble. Terrific to chat too and I'd have no qualms in buying from that organisation he represents.
Thanks for that guys. The reason for my question was that I'll be looking to import a 360 in the not too distant future. To do this, I need to source the car soon (and wait the 12 months minimum for the personal import rules). I've been looking into tubi specced cars in the UK, and was wondering how tricky / easy it is to get them registered. While I understand the argument here for rego, I wonder if the blue slip engineer will turn a similarly blind eye. Has anyone imported a car with a tubi and been able to get it registered WITHOUT having to put a stock item back on ( and while at it, would the car need to get retuned to stock)? I should have mentioned this earlier, sorry.
Why risk it. You can buy a 2nd hand Tubi off eBay any day of the week. If you do run into trouble with a Tubi Equiped car I have a standard 360 exhaust cluttering up my garage!
my 328 had a tubi on it. no problems. not quite the same though as a 360 is obviously post 1989....if that still applies with a personal import like what you're doing.
Thanks guys (particularly 360C). If I can find a good one when I'm looking, I'll go for one thats Tubi equipped, and cross that blue-slip bridge if / when it comes up. Much appreciated. Rgds, Rob ps: I dont know if you guys have been looking, but they are for sale in the UK for £35,000~ish. With the current exchange rates, thats < $70,000 AU. Not a bad buying price. I've already personally imported a car from the UK, so I know whats involved. It now seems like a really great time to buy.
Greetings Rob As a personal import ..ie. kept the car in your personal ownership in the UK for >12 months you will NOT have to pass Federal RAWS regulations. However, as you rightly say, in NSW you will have to pass Blue slip rules and all they are really interested is whether the VIN and engine number match up and other details. That advice will ONLY be incorrect if you are NOT required to pass a noise test and that may be the killer. Blue slip rules are only concerned with function, not 'originality'. HOWEVER if you strike the sole person in NSW RTA who has a grudge against Ferrari that advice may be incorrect. A totally different story if you are bringing in a car that has to comply with RAWS regulations. In that case you will have to replace the TUBI and the Cats (if it is older than 5 years). BIG expense. In 1990 we brought a '65 Corvette from WA to Canberra and we had to get the ACT equivalent of a "blue slip". After all had been checked .. it was VERY thorough, I thought we were home free. As we left the brake tester I gave the car a little 'whoop' ... the next thing I heard was "excuse me sir, would you put your car there so we can do a noise test?" Which involved running the car at 2/3 max revs with the tester a metre or so from the back ... FAIL. An extra muffler at the rear fixed it up. Somewhere in there is a moral to that story Philip C BTW an X-OST or Quicksilver sounds a lot better on a 360 IMHO
Thanks for that Philip. I agree that individuals can throw spanners in the works. I'm only really looking at the Tubi, because they are so popular in the UK. If I find a different exhaust, then I dont mind. TBH, my main interest is in driving across to the Stelvio Pass, and going through some of the excellent tunnels with WOT, and the upgraded exhaust. Bliss!
FYI http://www.quicksilverexhausts.com/product_bulletins/Ferrari/360%20Modena/46.htm http://www.xost.it/xost_catalogo/pdf_ferrari/XOST_Ferrari_F_360.pdf From numerous track days and Tubis on various cars, the Tubi seems to have an unpleasant "shrill" noise at upper rpm. If you got a Quicksilver Super sports plus and Cat replacers then I would come to Sydney to hear that Philip C
Much appreciated for the information. As regards timelines, I suspect it may well be awhile. I wont get to Europe tll April at the earliest, and possibly some time after that anyway. Then another 12 months minimum, plus sourcing the car, plus transit times. As you've been through it too, you know the drill. Thanks again. Rgds, Rob
definitely go for Tubi... it sounds great... just got mine installed today by Phil Hughes... great result... a bit booming and sound in between 2000 to 3000rpm in the cabin (need to control the throttle well to avoid that) and any rpm higher than 3000rpm = music... cheers, richie
Last I knew the tax free threshold was AU$900 , , , make it beleiveable and it will probably get through. My sister is a Quarantine officer and works with customs , , they are all trained to look for "unbelievable" prices. $875 seems to be a very safe bet to me
Richie, do you know if there is much difference in cabin between the coupe and the convertible within that range? Actually, I'm a bit surprised that Tubi would produce something like this. I've had aftermarket exhausts on other cars, and while some also exhibit these types of symptoms, others are able to produce a product without this problem. The biggest issue seems to be highway droning (that I've seen discussed with these other exhausts I mentioned before). I'd guess that Ferraris wont exactly be doing a million motorway miles, so it might be possible to drive around the problem, but what is the general consensus on the "best" exhaust? Tubi? Quicksilver? Capristo? X-OST? Other recommendations? Is it possible to do a poll on this topic? Rgds, Rob
correct..................as if anyone here would have a clue, there again, if one goes to the "no wankers allowed website" and passes the psych 101 test as audited by an idiot there is a plethora of information relating to internet dating, number plates and applications for a telephone
I put an X-Ost on the GT4 though its not the same car as the thread in question...I had good service as well as good price dealing direct from the Factory
