I asked tubi about a muffler system for my BBi and because I have the sport 365 headers rather than the original 512 headers, they dont make a system that fits so I would have to buy their special sport headers which im sure are a little larger than stock. Question is, has anyone seen these or have them on their boxer? I imagine I would have to sell one of my children to buy the headers but Im still curious to see what the look like. Apparently they sound incredible as a complete system according to tubi and I dont doubt it.

I think someone told me a few years ago, the exhaust headers were around 7K.

I believe I also heard, they were not worth the funds ?

The 512BB that was rebuilt and had a valve failure by Carobu had pics of Tubi headers on their website.

The factory headers look damn good to me, can't see how you could improve them at all.

    Good day Paul,

I cannot comment on the Tubis, but I have recently received a quote from http://www.stainless-exhaust.com for new headers and exhaust. Here is the quote (Feb 2006):

Headers (manifolds) 1235 GBP (complete set)
    4-Box (OEM)Exhaust 2350 GBP
    2-Box (Sport) Exhaust 1400 GBP

So far this company has the most reasonable price and for what I have heard (no pun intended), a good reputation and product.

Anyway, I wanted to check on some prices before I ran out and started welding my own. I will keep you posted on my progress.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Geez JP, You could just say that my BB has them, enough with the "valve failure" moniker. I cant live with this over my head for the rest of my life! :)

She's back now by the way and better than ever. New Ferrea valves and all.

To the question, yes I have the Tubi headers and they breathe and sound phenomenal. Better that stock? I couldn't say, I didn't have her with the stock ones on.

Hey sam, how goes the battle?

As for the factory headers not having room for improvement goes, I just finished reading the 365 boxer engine book I bought off ebay. It was enlightening to say the least and the car owner/restorer is one sharp cookie. He pointed out enough faults in the 365BB engine from the carbs to the oil pan to make me think twice about a 365BB. He did say the boxer headers basically suck and pointed out many areas for improvement. I wont buy tubi headers, just wanted a louder muffler maybe and a tubi came to mind first, im told I can get a great deal on one through a friend of mine so i was considering a change.

Dopplemax's BB pulled about stock horsepower with Tubi headers at 360hp, if the factory headers were a bottleneck the Tubi headers would have given at least 10hp, I think the Tubi stuff may be nice but its alot of hype and way overpriced for what if any performance improvement you get.

Why do you want to get "digs" into CAROBU? As far as I can tell, you called for free advice and you got what you paid for. What is the problem? If there is another issue, please let me know. I would like to set things right.

I have a friend that makes headers for most of the nascar teams in charlotte, nc. he makes the most incredible headers that you have ever seen...f-1 quality and sectional, cone type construction.

he re-did my headers and laughed at how they looked a bit shoddy from the factory. He said he would be able to make a jig and then make them in the highest grade of ss for about $4k. the size (diameter) would need to be researched in order to optimize performance.

If there are any takers, i can lead the project and my car can be used as the test mule.

let me know...these would be the most astounding headers you ever saw. they nearly make you cry they are so nice!!!

I didn't get any free advice believe me just a sales pitch when I had a question about a rebuild on my BB motor.

Look through the archives, the 2nd last PO of Dopplemaxs car spent over $20k for a rebuild on the BB engine and they cheaped out and regrinded the sodium valves instead of replacing them, a stupid rookie mistake and his engine ate one after 4k miles with expensive results. Boxer engines only get so many rebuilds and this one was not neccessary but do to incompetence from them.

So you are from Carobu explain why didn't you insist on new valves a known weak point on 70s Ferrari motors?

And don't say the owner was a cheap skate look at all the money he put in that cars restoration.I came very close to buying that car adding it to my other BB so this could have been me with this problem.

We asked for an explanation before but heard none so nows your chance.

Its a basically stock BB motor which pulled the factory hp numbers, a CIS BBi
will be around 340hp, sounds right to me.

All we want to hear is your version of why the valves were not replaced, its your reputation, we can only guess as to why they weren't.
