I had a tubi put on my 348 last week.

However, when they took the tubi off, they found that one of the cats was completly blown out and empty. I then decided to have it decatted as I was basically driving around in a half decatted car anyway and also as there were no cats to hand..

Does anyone else get a boomy noise at low revs? Over 3,000 revs, it sounds awesome, but below that it booms and gives me a headache especially at idle.

If I put the cats back on, would that get rid of the booming noise?

    Sy :

    * 80% of the sound comes from the muffler; 20% of the sournd comes from the cats

    * 80% of the heat from the from cats; 20% of the heat comes from the muffler.

Yes, cats will make somewhat of a difference but the boomy sound <3000 is mostly the Tubi.

    Sy,

If you want to make sure, just have a passenger ride in my car to compare. I don't have any unpleasant booming.

If I come to the Run on Sunday, we can do it then, or you're welcome to pop by my place any time :)

My is pretty damn "boomy" below 3000 and it only gets louder as you get on it. Its 114 decibles at 6000 RPMs and thats when my friends meter stopped. 98DB's at idle.

Thanks for the info Daniel. If I get emmission problems, I'll be calling you for those hyper-flows.

Jas, seems that I'm the only one who finds it uncomfortable at low revs. Could be because I tend to drive it in London where there's more traffic. Think I'll need to compare with yours, although being a spider there may be a noticable difference.

On the plus side (or negative side, depending on your view point), I've become a hooligan......revving up my engine and scaring people.

    :D :D :D

it happens...I have a Tubi and Hyperflows which does have a bit of resonance at low revs but as you are finding there is a cure for that under your right foot...

    Cheers

I thought jets were more in the 125 range but I could be wrong. No matter what the thing is loud.

I have a movie of me on the net around a track (along with some other cars including a 250GTB) from different corners on the track if you want to hear what it sounds like on my car.

Hollowed cats will give you a boomier sound at idle & at low RPM's due to the pulses of the exhaust bouncing around the larger part of the chamber of the cat that is now hollowed. It actually quiets down with a straight pipe or a cat. I have seen this on many times on Testarossa's and 348's 355,s etc as we do so much exhaust related work.

I have straight pipes, so maybe that's why I don't suffer booming. Angelis, check your setup, has yours got hollowed out cats?

I'll try and take a short passenger ride in yours to compare. Then we'll know if your sensitive ears or your car ;) :D
