+1, paper filters only for my 355. I ran a K&N on my STi for a while where I wanted to squeeze out every ounce of power and didn't mind cleaning the MAF wire every so often. IMHO not worth the risk or hassle on the 355.

I've recently seen ads on Yahoo! by K&N claiming a 5.03hp increase with their filter on a Dodge Neon. Not 5.3hp, not 5.0, not "about 5 hp" but 5.03. It seems to me they are trying to gain credibility with such a number going down to hundredths. "Well, gee, they measured it all the way to three hundredths so it must be true."

I find such a number laughable and they lose almost all credibility with me when they state something like that. I'm no dyno expert but I would expect it's close to impossible (if not impossible) to measure three one hundredths of a horsepower (and especially with repeatability) on a machine that measures 100 or many hundreds of horsepower.

Would have been more impressed and had more respect for them had they said "about a 5hp increase" or even "5hp+ increase."

It tells me something about their marketing department and makes any other claim by them less believable for me.

I use K&N’s in my daily driver and my VZ800.
In a modern car with EFI there is no way you can feel a difference in hp. 220, 225 or 230 hp???? Or even worse, a car with 350 hp gaining 10… Just by driving it?
And you can’t make a dynorun and test the hp with paper filters and then switch to a cotton filter and make a new test run and notice a measured gain in hp’s, the EFI system has to adapt itself to the increased airflow first, and that takes more than a 2minute dynorun. That’s why the power drops in the beginning before the system has adapted the fuel curve.
There was a noticeable difference in hp for the bike. It gained approximately 10hp.
The bike has carbs. It had to be rejetted, otherwise it would run lean, as a EFI car does. Main jets and needles where replaced. Main jets from #115 to #135, that’s a big difference.
I know lots of people with K&N and similar filters like JR. None of them has ever had any problems with filteroil contaminating the MAF sensor.
Cottonfilters causing more wear on an engine due to poor filtering, I don’t believe that one.

    PS.
I do not sell the product named above nor hold shares in the company.
I’m just telling the product works for me and several others I know of.

Yea. I got a pair of them in there. Had them for about a year. No issues. Car seems to run fine. Hard to tell any differance. I like the fact I can reuse them. I'm going green you see. Mike (Actually fly yellow)
