Tubi or not Tubi There doesn't seem to be any middle ground o this question. Love them or hate them? But for $3,000, there sure seem to be a lot of people who are hot for Tubi (either dealers who want to install them or owners who want to have them on their cars). After being a teen in 1971 and having a '68 Mustang with Cherrybombs (and the experience of a Colorado State Trooper coming up my ass at 65mph to listen... before pulling me over for a lecture about being too loud) I've resisted the idea of Tubi-- not because I'm worried about cops on my tail, but because I'm to secure to care what others think of my car. Nobody I've talked to seems to be able to confirm Tubi's boast of a 30 horsepower boost in the 550 with their system. And the only time I sat in another guy's 550 (with Tubi) and listened to the low end rumble, I was pretty sure I prefered listening to my stereo system. FINALLY Tonight, I found a web page that helped me decide that I would not Tubi http://www.scuderiasystems.com/iM-Media.htm Listening to what the various cars sound like (Ferraris and Lambos) with Tubi, I think they all sound brittle and crass. I laugh at the 550 barchetta's misfire, as he flies away...poppa de pop pop! Basically, I'm resisting Tubi for the same reason I'm resisting the Lambo Gallardo. In my 550, out on the open road, I'm communing with nature with wide-open views and clear thoughts...and YELO, the official Swiss band for the Yellow Maranello. The Gallardo hems your visibility in so severely, you're not in the real world any longer. You're in the world of Lambo. But you KNOW that there's a jackass SOMEWHERE next to you, out on the interstate (who you know is about to "show you up" in his 5.0 Mustang) . But in the Lambo, he's disappeared behind a B pillar. You don't know eher he is! The same is true of a Tubi on a 550. No longer are you minding your own thoughts, enjoying your own music. You're making a "statement". Hey, the low-end rumble of a Tubi at a stoplight is the LAST thing I need! I have enough problem with teenie boy wanna be cruisers as it is--without getting into a audible test of whose cars the loudest! As it is, if those little punks can keep up with me to the onramp at say, 50mph in second gear and hear what happens to my stock exhaust at 5,000 rpm when that solenoid valve kicks in...well, THAT would be something for them to write home about! "Wow, a Ferrari SMOKED me the other day! And you should have heard his stock exhaust! Formula One!" http://www.laserradio.com/hoback-river-sml.jpg
Love them. The louder the better. I bought one (tubi nst I think, $5,000 real loud) for my 04 coupe and had it moved to my 05 spider, can't here the radio but who cares? It's a Ferrari !!!!!!!!!!!! bob
Here is the story of a fellow FChatter and latest Tubi victim! Moral: Get the Cargraphic/Fuchs. Sounds great....................Less expensive. LOL, I sound like a beer commercial! DL
Get muffler shop custom make you a 'cherry bomb' exhaust. Usually under $700 and sounds great to me. FYI: some 'cherry bomb' manufacturers offer a way to alter the back pressure so you could tune the exhaust to your car per se
That really surprises me because I have been to TUBI USA's shop in Holland, MI many times and I can say that Frank and Lou are 2 of the nicest guys I've ever met. Is it an issue w/ TUBI USA in particular, TUBI corporate or dealer level?
Besides Tubi, do people have strong feelings about the other one or two exhaust companies that advertise in the magazines? Can anyone describe how these systems sound-compared to Tubi? And I hope I haven't offended anyone's taste (who like Tubis). I'd rather listen to my girlfriend and/or the music-- than the rumble-- if the rumble isn't making my car FASTER!
John You are right, the Tubi may be a little (understatement of the year) loud for a daily driver. Sounds to me like you may be better off with the stock muffler wired open and the centre exhaust section removed and replaced with a crossover pipe, to add a bit more attitude to the tone. I forgot to say thanks for the link in my previous post.
I couldn't hear you over my 550 idling a block away. Loud? Nah, just throaty. I have to say, I love the Tubis. Turns heads. They make the 550 sound very, very, very bad. And it is. Very bad, in the best way.
Nothing against them directly. I've met them both. Great guy. But... They can't deliver!!! 4+mo. for a Tubi for my ENZO???? Come on! Then on top of that, They try to bump me $900.00 more. My friend had to wait the same for a 612 Tubi. They said it was Fed Exed. Months later he received it! Love the product Hate the Service. Lately (because of the Euro) the prices are astronomical!!! So, I'll wait!
I personally havn't heard the Tubi exhaust in person but from the people i have talked to they say it'd not that much louder then stock. They recommend Capristo, but i have to hear both in person.
before you decide you should hear the cargraphics with the crossover pipe. i hear it's awesome. pun intended.
As mentioned in a previous thread I have installed a mille-miglia to my 355 and I am more than happy with torque gain and sound I know they make exhausts for 360's not sure about 550 but they probably do. Excellent value well made and note is not too obtrusive. If I buy a 360 again or a 550 I will definitely install one of these asap.
Tubi.......great craftsmanship and beauty with the polished stainless steel. Benefits......sound, negatives.......power gain if any is negligible. Most people who claim they notice a differance are just dreaming, though you may gain some, which I doubt is perceptible in the seat of your pants. It's like K&N filters. Any power gains are really not noticible. It's called marketing, that's what sells this stuff! I like the sound of a Tubi, but I'm not willing to spend thousands just for that!!!
