    Hi guys,

I love so much that V8 sound that I am really considering the purchase of a Tubistyle exhaust for my Modena. I already know that is isn't road-legal, but there are ways to get around that.
    BUT
what is the max Db level you get with that exhaust ? Is that a problem on the average trackday ?

Other : can you REALLY make other drivers deaf while driving in a tunnel :) ?

    Franck,
    TUBI! No question!
I have had a Tubi with test-pipes mounted on my 308QV and now also on
    my testarossa!
To me, just to die for!
    Driving thru a tunnel - thats amazing......ask Didier with his 360 Spider:D
He drove behind me and couldn`t hear his 360:D:D
Ususal its NOT a problem with trackdays, police etc. `cause the TUBI starts working realy loud OVER 4.500 rpm`s! So its no problem to drive home late in the night thru smal citys - just stay under 4.000rpms.

If you like the way your 360 sounds, then keep it as it is !
Not worth the hassle of changing your muffler at every inspection at the Blécherette, and with the flurry of random police controls, you are not that uncertain to be caught.
The only reason why i put a Tubi on my 550 is that I did NOT like the OEM exhaust note (nobody does, Maranellos sound bland when stock), and it's loudest between 1000 and 2000 rpm. Not all models are identical.
My 355 sounds fabulous and is absoutely stock, see no reason of changing that ...

So a TUBI (and other custom exhausts that go above a certain Db) is illegal in Switzerland?
    I didn't know that.
A lot of ecological regulations over there!
Is there a big risk for foreigners with a loud exhaust, to get a ticket for this too?

About the initial question; it's a very personal decision IMO...
If you like it stock, keep it stock...
Listen to a 360 that has already got TUBI installed... If you like it more than the original sound, change it...

TubiTubiTubi - absolutely. They are very high quality products, and they ROCK. You won't need a sound system in your car any more.

On the other hand, beware of the Swiss anti-fun police... in my region (S. Gallen) they alway close both eyes (and both ears) when it comes to supercars - I know a guy who fitted straight-through pipes to his Diablo SV... you could hear him accelerate on the Autobahn 2 Kms away!!! The police never bothered him though, in this area they are quite tolerant with supercars for some reason. They will stop and fine any modified VW or Seat they can catch, but they hardly ever bother a Ferrari or a Lambo.

Is it the same in Lausanne, or are they stricter? It's up to you to decide...

I am yet to be caught by one of these mushrooming random controls, I just get the alerts through natel futé and it's amazing to see how frequent and ubiquitous they are.
I am skeptical that the Maranello would/will go through without trouble, and am certain that the DMV inspection is a lost cause.
Hence my point that, unless your car sounds really bland with stock exhaust (as 550s do), mounting a Tubi is just begging for trouble as you're certain to have to unmount/remount every 4, then 3 then 2 years depending on the age of the car.

Politically speaking, the more outrageous our cars sound, the more we're paving the way for repression and punitive measures. Some might consider fun to have a car that can be heard 2kms away. To me it's stupid, arrogant and irresponsible. Just a matter of time before the SG police is told to do something about exotics too.

    one with, one without.

Didn't think of all of this. The politically correct thing is quite something I never thought of, since I thought quite illogically that it is more a gift I do to other drivers when I floor the Modena in a tunnel...
Well, I would just had loved that when I was on the other side of the prancing horse. So why wouldn't they love it, huh ?
    People are strange, really :)

I had a chat with someone living in ZH, tubi on his F355, and he told me that, even though you get caught by the police, they can't prove anything on site. That leaves you some time to get the original mounted back. But I don't know if this is the case in Lausanne.

    So much to think of.

Maybe I'll just buy a Fiat Multipla.

    (yeah, kidding...)

    Thanks for the opinions lads.

Go for it ... you won't be disappointed...

I thought my 355 sounded great with the OEM exhaust... but now with a Tubi... it's really on another level...

I have just heard a 360 at Tamsen in Hamburg. It had a (Tüv) street legal
Fuchs exhaust with a very dark sound. I am bying it for my 360 spider.
Check it out also you might love it, and it has Tüv approval in Germany.
Dont know the rules in Sw. though.

I agree in principle. For the same reason, I think this continuous horsepower race (the next Gallardo will have 600 BHP, and the Murcielago R-GT 720 BHP ?????) will eventually be stopped by the political forces the day that some rich idiot crashes his 600 BHP ultra-car at high speed into a family minivan killing everyone on board plus maybe a few pedestrians. I really hope this will never happen, or else we'll kiss goodbye to our beloved supercars.

Regarding the SG police, I think they close an eye on supercars that are only seldom used - this loud Diablo SV only gets driven 2/3,000 Kms per year, and most of the time in Germany anyway... I think they would not tolerate someone who drove a Tubi'd 360 Modena every early morning on his work commute. My neighbour is a SG cop, so I have a good feeling for what they "tolerate" and what they don't!!

It belongs to a mad Swiss guy living on Bodensee, who commissioned a friend of mine to strip the exhaust off his yellow SV and put a straight-through racing system. It's VERY LOUD. I have NEVER heard anything like it outside a racetrack. Imagine a combination of '67 Ferrari P4 bass throb with a hint of '75 312T F.1 wail at high revs... it's pure vintage like a '67 Brunello di Montalcino!! No matter how loud it is, it sounds absolutely beautiful to any enthusiast (including the local cops, since they never stopped or fined him).

Alas, it is not for sale...

Yes, consider a Fuchs! The quality is at least as good as from Tubi.
Fuchs Sound is very popular in Germany for many good reasons - not only the TÜV homologation. If you ever want to sell your car in a few years you will get some calls from germany if it is fitted with a Fuchs-muffler.

    Thanks a lot Simon,
I have already seen this one at autoscout.ch.
Toooooo expensive for a 98 SV. There was another one in red 1999 sold for 105K 2 weeks ago - but sadly red:(
The `99 is the better deal cause of the much better brakes and the lift-system.

    Hey guys,

A lot of information, thx. I will investigate in the Fuchs alternative. By the way, a Diablo SV with a race exhaust... you can hear one and even drive it during the race days organised by Excel racing. (http://www.excel-racing-cars.com/) I found it scaringly loud to be honest, it almost hurt.

One last thing : I'm worried by the fact that a modified exhaust would ban me from most tracks (max is usually 90dB). Did you ever hear of any tricks to manually alter the system, so to say, mute on or off :) ?

Wolfgang, I have to confess that if I find a real SV for the right price I'll go for it!! I've always loved that car, ever since I spent a few weeks working (unpaid, unfortunately...) at Lamborghini after I finished university... just think that from my office every hour or so the windows would tremble and you would hear a "WOOOOAH - WHAMMMM!" as yet another Diablo just fresh from the production line was taken for a systems-check drive by some lucky test driver... it was IMPOSSIBLE to do any work, also considering that a racing Diablo SV-R with 640 BHP and a sequential 'box was being assembled in the workshop just outside my office door!!!!

I was always drooling over this metallic-orange monster, which had massive black 19'' wheels, a LOUD exhaust, the front bumper was about 3cm from the ground and it had massive brake-cooling vents in the wider front wheelarches.

One morning I saw the test driver cleaning stones out of these vents, and I asked him what happened. He told me "we took the SV-R on the autostrada in the night to check high-speed stability" (in those days before Audi, Lambo had no money to book a racetrack, everything was tested on the road like in the '60s!!). I asked him "Was it ok?" and as he quietly lit a cigarette he answered me "yeah, I maxed it out at 355 Km/h near Parma and kept it there all the way to Modena. Very stable car".

I tell you, this driver was the COOLEST guy I've ever met in a car company!
