Forgive the newbie question, but I'm car shopping and one of the 328GTS's that's coming available has a Tubi exhaust. From poking around the forum, I gather that this is an aftermarket exhaust, stainless steel, and an expensive one. My questions are: 1. How loud will this make the V-8 relative to the OEM 328 exhaust? I don't want it sound like a Lexus (zzzzz), but also don't want to rattle the windows when I pull in the drive... 2. Does it add hp? 3. Does it add to the value of the car -- I'm potentially the buyer -- or detract from its originality? Probably less of an issue with a 328 than something like a GTO, but someday I suppose even these V-8 cars will be somewhat collectible. Thanks all! I'm learning a lot on this site, which will make it easier to bite the bullet and get my first F-car soon. Jon
My 328 came with a tubi and test pipes. It was really quite loud and quite quick. I added back the cat and lost some sound and maybe some horsepower--maybe it's my imagination. With the Tubi the sound is rich and solid. I do set off sensitive alarms in underground garages. The car itself is visually loud as well. On the highway, I wouldn't want it any other way. Pulling into my office the car itself is already kind of high profile. I'd pay for the car not the exhaust and be glad its there. So, if the car is worth 40 to you pay that and don't add or subtract for the exhaust. Just my 2 cents.
Exhaust note preference is definitely a personal taste, but if you like the sound of the F1 cars, then Tubi + test pipes exhaust sound is as close as you will get with a street car. I have that combination on my 348 and love it I think it will enhance the value of the car since most f-car owners want to replace theirs with Tubi. Good luck and I hope you get it!
The title of this thread is downright Shakespearean..... I have the stock exhaust on my 328 and I like it just fine. It's already as loud as I'd ever like it to be, and on long freeway trips the drone almost becomes monotonous. (Note that I said "almost"!) To me, about the only way to improve the sound would be to add 4 more cylinders.....
1. How loud will this make the V-8 relative to the OEM 328 exhaust? I don't want it sound like a Lexus (zzzzz), but also don't want to rattle the windows when I pull in the drive... I have one and it's louder but not too loud though. Best heard than described. It boils down to what you like. 2. Does it add hp? The Tubi website claims there is a 10-15 HP gain. Probably NOT unless you replace the cat with a test pipe. Even if you have a 5 Hp gain, it is not noticeable anyway. 3. Does it add to the value of the car? It (probably) adds some value. Tubi'd 328's seem to have higher asking prices (which doesn't mean anything anyway). It is probably the most popular and most accepted after-market exhaust for a 328 (definitely not saying it is better). Good luck. Ron
Thanks, all. I'm going to drive the car next week. The asking price seems pretty much in line with the year and mileage -- and the car has an excellent service history. So I don't think I'm paying too much of a premium for the exhaust. As long as it still sounds like a Ferrari, I don't mind some extra volume, as I don't plan on driving it cross country. Test pipes are probably an extremely bad idea in California, given our smog checks, so I'm going to verify this car still has the cat. I'd rather be able to actually register the car than cut my 0-60 by 0.1 sec or thereabouts ;-) Jon
Frankly Tubi is overrated, there are many other options out ther, such as Larini, Quick Silver, Ansa, and Borla. All of these are better than stock and you wouldn't be dissapointed with any of them.
Loud pipes save lives. That's a Harley thing but I'd say yes. All my cars have had them and I just didn't like them stock. I had Borla on my Corvette and they were not my favorite but they may sound great on a F car.
It's all up to what you want. I have the stock exhaust on my 328 and it sounds great. I changed my Corvette from stock to Corsa Indys and it's good - but not near as good [or as loud by a long shot] as the stock 328 exhaust. My advice is get the car and then decide.
