I need a little help from some of you with plenty experince more than me. I just got a 92 TR and I hear that Tubi is the way to go, however I did a little research and found out that the OEM's pre-cat and the cats provides a great deal of flow restriction, but in order for the car to pass the emission test which is done every year, I need to keep all that with the exception of the muffler. 1. I there a good idea just exchanging the muffler with a Tubi leaving the pre-cats and cats with the system ? 2. I there any other added venifit other than maybe sound ? Any if all this is good, is there any one hass a used Tubi, let me know. I will appreciate any input, and thanks for the help.
You can get the Tubi with Hyper Flow cats to get better air flow through your exhaust. As far as secondary benefits, the jury is still out as to whether there are any horse power gains to be had. If any it would be minimal, but the sound is worth it. Good luck in finding a used Tubi as everyone and their brother is looking for the same. Below is a link to just one supplier of said cats: http://ricambiamerica.com/index.php?cPath=175&osCsid=df38d8c7ab56b1e84d370404e3b14436
I changed my 1990 TR to a Tubi and was disappointed in the sound the Hyperflows was going to be my next move till I read that if you dont deal with the Pre Cats then you dont get the full benifit of the Tubi or Hyper flows. The folks at Hyper Flow are currently working on a set of Pre Cats so I have waited and will do all cats at the same time.
tubi dont sound good on a tr i have a fuchs which is better [ in my opinion] but try and get to hear a capristo as they are good also
My 88 came with a Tubi so I cannot compare, but I think it sound OK. I actually prefer the grumbling, low growling sound at idling than at high revs.
Any power gain...??? I got the 85 Testarossa, one with little four muffluers. I got rid of two side ones, replace with stright pipe. I got deep low sound at idle. But still wonder if Tubi sound better or gain more horse for me...??? before...........http://www.xok.com/sundaymorningdrive/displayimage.php?album=29&pos=37 after..............http://www.xok.com/sundaymorningdrive/displayimage.php?album=29&pos=20
ROCEJA, Your best bet is a muffler free exhaust system (just pipes in place of the muffler) from www.stainless-exhaust.com , this will give you even more extra HP than any other brand of aftermarket exhaust on the market, plus it's less than half the price of the others because you're doing away with the muffler. A muffler restricts airflow as much as the cats do which is a lot. If you eliminate the muffler, the airflow restriction in this area will be gone and you will just be left with restriction from the cats which you can replace with Hyperflow Cats. Hyperflows are nearly as unrestrictive as test pipes. If you want to know what a mufflerless exhust system sounds like on a Testa, just listen to a MSRACING exhaust on a 512TR, but now imagine it 10% louder.
My race 512TR has an exhaust w no muffler. I dont think I could live w that on a daily basis. it is SERIOUSLY LOUD. Probably louder than several Harleys Great for a race car but on the road the Cops will be looking for you
Gentlemen. I really thank you all, for the good information and excellent advised I can see some of you had experince with other systems other than Tubi, and that is good to know. Also that cats from Hyperflow sound interesting and specially now that may come also with matching pre-cats, good so we can stay legal for some of us that we have to go every year to comply with the emmission testing. I will continue to visit the page and hope the reply to the thread continues for little awile. Thanks again for the help !!
Custom exhaust using cut down corvette resonators. Not mine, but designed and built as a one off by a TR guy a few years ago. He has sence sold the TR and pipes are still on machine. Those who have heard this setup say it is awsome. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here is a mufflerless exhaust system for the 512TR. Because it still has the cats attached (you can just see them in the pictures) it will pass the MOT. Remember that it is as loud as a decat Tubi'd Gallardo. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That must sound great!!I want to try that type of system on my 512TR.Did you have somebody fab that up? I have the same type of system on my 348 and the sound is awesome.
This is what I mount on my TR.No idea of the brand, does any one know.?? It sure sounds great and it's 44 lbs lighter.no cats on thse. Roland F40LM Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yep Roland and Sparky51....that is the discontinued Borla system. Too bad as the sound is great and it removes everything. Here's a pic of my Borla. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Could be losing a bit of torque, but my "seat of the pants" accelerometer says the car pulls better with the Borla than with the factory system. I did have to slightly re-adjust the fuel mixture when I put the Borla on as I recall. The sound is pretty nice...I would have thought it would be louder than it is. People say they can hear the car from quite a distance due more it it's unique sound, not it's "loud" sound. I really like the "shrill" the MS Racing exhaust systems seem to have. I would love to have that sound on my next Testarossa. Wish I knew how to duplicate it. If your not familiar with MS Racing, check the Lambo forum and look for a sound clip of a Murci with MS racing exhaust....it's to die for!
STEVE M, The mufflerless 512TR exhaust system pictured is not mine. I have a standard sports exhaust fabricated by www.stainless-exhaust.com But if you want a mufflerless exhaust just like the one pictured for your 512TR, Stainless-Exhaust will make you one for approx $1200.
