What is a Tubi and test pipes worth for a 87 Testarossa??
I would think a good buck.. At least 25 to 30 percent of what you paid unless they are a mess... In my opinion - I don't think the Tubi set up does the Testarossa any justice... It is preference. I am sure that if you have a set up to sell - it should go pretty quick.. Call T Rutlands and ask them how much a set up would cost you if they had it.. Then you would have some sort of starting point. Get out and drive today.. (weather permitting of course) NY area is a great day for romping on the bit*h.. She loves every minute of it.. Be well Robbie
I think the Tubi and test pipes (I'm assuming you mean the straight pipes with no cats) were around $5K 7-8 years ago. At least that was what the previous owner said these were worth when they were installed on my car.
Describe what "test pipes" means: 1. Two test pipes to replace the cats only, 2. Two test pipes to replace the precats only, or 3. A set of both 1. and 2. (4 pipes total)? And give materials each of the various test pipes are made of -- a 300 series stainless steel material in a well-polished condition (i.e., a fresh Hyper-Flow brand) is worth considerably more than a homemade pipe made out of carbon steel IMO. And similarly, a stock, stripped precat (serving as a test pipe to replace a precat) would be somewhere in between the Hyper-Flow precat test pipe, and a homemade carbon steel precat test pipe.
already have euro test pipes, no pre cats just need the short test pipe, polished preferably and the tubi..
Hi guys...first post here, been reading along for quite a while and this site was a HUGE help when I was lining up my purchase, so it's nice to have something to contribute finally. I have an 88.5 Euro TR, and paid about 7k CDN (about 5,500 US at the moment) for the Tubi and test pipes about 4 or 5 months ago. I had them installed when I had the major done so wasn't charged any labour, which was handy! I had the car for a season before making the change, and I am completely, totally happy that I did...I'd never go back. I was debating between the Capristo and the Tubi, which I was fortunate enough to hear both on similar year TRs first. The Capristo sounded more intense and a bit sharper, but was also a LOT louder and it seemed that way regardless of revs or throttle input. The Tubi sounds a little warmer and deeper and not quite as 'fast and furious' loud, especially at part-throttle. The nice thing about the Tubi I found is that at part-throttle just cruising along it's actually fairly quiet - just a nice throaty burble - you can easily go on a 6 hour drive without it wearing you out, or creep home a 3 in the morning without waking up the neighborhood. When you lean into it though, the volume goes way up and the sound from it is just glorious. In other words, you hear it when you want to. In fact, ever since I've had it installed, I find I rev about 1000 rpm higher in each gear... Anyways, hope this helps and thanks to everyone for all the help...great forum... Cheers.
Do you have pre-cats?? nice chat name my new plate was found by a fellow fchatter and it will be FLAT XII
Yes, I have pre-cats, but my mechanic said that they're empty (?) if that makes any sense. Nice plate, idea BTW...I just hope that with the Roman Numerals people don't stop you in traffic to ask you if you're "Pope Flat the Twelfth"!!! Cheers
I have a x-ost muffler and hyper flow cats and hyper flow straight precats and it sounds amazing, $2500 for the muffler and $1500 for the cats and about $1800 for the precat pipes, all polished
I also run the X-OST & Hyperflow. It sounds amazing. Even though it is the slowest toy I own, I just love the sound that the car makes the most (and the looks help a little also)!!!
I purchased from Ricambi America, they still sell the hyper flow parts but not the x-ost, Daniel may be able to recommend a dealer for you. I have a sound file but not on this computer. I will try to get it for you later.
I had a Tubi on my ex 308 , I thought it was a waste of money for the 308, I kept the 348 stock , the Euro 328 I had had the Tubi headers and muffler no cats and sounded awesome, the x-ost with the hyperflows I have on the TR sounds as good as the Tubi if not better.
Today , Monday I went to look at a 87 TR , it has a Tubi Exhaust, it looked nice on there., all stainless and shiny, The owner of the shop used to work for the Ferrari Race team in italy, I was very happy when he revved up the motor,It was pure music, I loved it !
Eric is right...the Tubi is pure artwork...it looks as awesome as it sounds thru the rear grill. Mine hasn't discoloured at all, either. While I can't comment on the sound quality of the X-OST as I haven't heard it, I have seen it up close and it doesn't hold a candle to the quality of finish/craftsmanship/welds of the Tubi...not even close. The good news is that you'll likely be very happy with either! Cheers.
