Yepp! All you brothers and sisters in the brotherhood, what´s your tricks tuning your 348?
I´m not talking about rebuilding the engine with racing cams/pistons. I´m just curious if there are any easy tricks to make her go as fast as possible?

The Scudaria Rampante gold connector kit is a must. You use the kit to totally re-pin the harness with high quality gold plated connectors. I did it on my 355 and it really sharpened up the car's performance.

Thanks on the quick response! I read somewhere on this forum that a combination of KN-air filter, removing the grills in the MAF, free-flow cats and a sport-muffler would make power increase. Removing grills in the MAF, does that make any difference?
I have a small stainless "silencer" and found a free flow KN-filter in the air box wich I cleaned and re-oiled. Is that a good sign? Recently all tires were changed to Bridgestone Expedia and four wheel alignment were done last year. What must I do to make her even better?

I´d start with getting rid of as much weight as possible, challenge style seats, lighter wheels, light weight exhaust system & things like that. Weight is your worst enemy.
+2 on the gold connector kit & the mandatory chassis setup work.

Letting the engine breath better is going to help improve power and responsiveness but don't expect much more than a small improvement from all of it. I spent more for intake/exhaust on the 355 than I did for the top of the line supercharger for my Lotus. That's Ferrari world for you. Try to identify the muffler, some produce more gains than others, and see if maybe you don't already have upgraded cats, or even straightpipes installed.

The first thing I would do is change the existing 348 brakes as they aren't that good.

I was once told by a 355 challenge mechanic that yes it does make a differance and it was more than you would think.

    Got a lathe?

Easy to make if you have the dimensions.

You have to hand cut them on your lathe and cannibalize the metal parts of the oem bushings you take out. The tolerances need to be near perfect and each a-arm hole is slightly different because the design is for sloppy rubber that expands to fill the hole. You can feel the wiggle of 0.001" in your hand. You want the delrin to be freely rotating to take the stichion out of the suspension but near tight so the arms don't rock. It is an easy but time consuming process to do right but you get near monoball results for a fraction of the cost or time it takes to cut monoball housings.

That is what I´m asking myself. Is it some protection for the MAF?

In my opinion, no. The screen is there to smooth out the air flow before it gets to the sensor. It helps to give it a more accurate reading of the incoming air. The reason is, the tube coming from the air box is too short for the air to have straightened itself out by the time it hits the maf. So a screen is place in front of the element.

Having said that, I have the screens removed from my mafs. The reason is they are a restriction. Even though the screen helps smooth out the air flow it also hinders it. But that is not all. The screen is sandwiched between the retaining ring, and the inner diameter of the ring is smaller than the opening of the maf. This also slows the air coming into the maf, and the air exiting the maf = not good. So out came both the screens.

I agree with Ernie. An example of no maf protection is the 3 series bmw it comes with no protection screens.

Does anyone have pics of the MAF's before and after the screens were removed?

Four "simple" tricks for freeing up some more power:

    1) high flow metal core cats
    2) high flow muffler
    3) ported and flow matched intake runners
    4) tapper ported throttle bodies

Before you do anything, go out and get a baseline dyno on the power output of your car. Then after you make each modification you can compare it to your base line dyno pull. Also, be sure you use the same dyno for testing each time.

Basically as long as you run the air filters it is safe.
