While I dont have a 348 yet, pick it up on the 21st!(so excited!!!!!) Has anyone ever thought about tunning these by making them lighter? I like to keep things standard or do things that can come back to standard.

But how much do you think a 348 could loose in kgs?

or what are your thoughts on the situation?

According to a Maranello Ferrari tech (UK) the GT Competizione is 1180 kg.

    This included:

Carbon/Kevlar (C/K) doors, strakes, window mounting hardware, lighter rear engine lid (debatable), bumpers front and rear, C/K F40 seats, little sound deadening, special wheels. This is "supposed" to be 300 kg. The doors are (frighteningly) thin and would account for most of the weight loss.

No idea what difference that made to the performance as never seen an official figure. Power/Weight ratio is the same as a 355.

I imagine you could do most of the above with Fibreglass parts and modern racing seats, some of which are about 6kg each.

One day I will get my GTC on a weighing machine and see what it actually weighs compared to a normal GTB. Personally I think the 300kg might be a little hopeful but who knows.

    Thanks for the post guys!

Love the girlfriend jokes in the link :)

Ive done some carbon fibre work before, so I will be starting with that to make it lighter. I will do the seats, wheels, battery. I think after that we are talking big cookie's! So we will see.

    thanks.

I think the 348 challenge cars had minimum weight of 3050 bls.(1375 kg.) I think in the US that was accomplished mostly be using light weight front and rear bumpers. Certainly removing interior and putting in carbon racing seats. Challenge rims are about 10lbs. per wheel lighter as well.

Thanks "PAP 348"! How's your 348 going? Love the tinted windows!!!

Ok first step would be the seats(Like what you guys said). What do you guys think about MOMO stuff? I know its not OMP. But as far as value goes check this out:

    http://www.racingfuel.biz/product_info.php?products_id=109

5.8kg and 285euro each. Not bad.

Ive found them in the states for $252, which is much cheaper but I think shipping to EU and Import tax would make it the same. You would think it would be cheaper in the EU...........

O.K. I assume the listed weights are dry from the various Ferrari sources:

    348ts 3233 lbs FNA manual
348c 3050 lbs per rules 348 challenge book
348gtc micholoto car? 2619 lbs website
    my gutted 348 racecar 2669 lbs !!!

I am 2817 lbs ready to race with all fluids and 1/2 tank of gas. I have a full welded rollcage x-bar doorbars, full containment seat, and firesystem on slicks and front and rear window glass. I do not have any special parts just gutted out car. I can still gut out about 20-50lbs I think. I think I can hit the 2500 lbs mark if I try dollars dependant. If you don't believe 2817 I got picutres on 4 wheel scales. At over 500lbs lighter than a stock 348ts it is no wonder that I can beat 355's and some 360's too. Once I got past a badly driven 430C and when he was in front of me he could never shake me. My whole Ferrari is worth less than his ceramic brakes...now that was a hoot.

I think the challenge regs from '94 list 3050lbs is weight with all fluids except fuel and driver. I don't know what dry weight would be. Obviously the 348 can be made much lighter than road configuration.

Nope nothing. In fact I could be lighter with an 8lb race shell vs my 28lb full containment NASCAR seat and I still have front and rear glass windows. There are still many metal arms that used to hold things that can be removedfrom the car and there is the entire evap control system to remove and if I ran a fuel cell I could run less fuel. With a stock tank i need 1/4 tank just to prevent fuel pump sucking air on long fast sweepers. I also still have stock front and rear bumpers. So I think I can beat the GTC weight but no match its horsepower without adding back the weight of say a twin turbo. But then who would care about weight?
