In my opinion turbo cars are the best of best of the 308 series: the early 208 GTB turbo is the best looking of them all and the first Ferrari turbocharged road engine, and the GTB/GTS turbo intercooler is the fastest and the most exciting. ciao

You forget I own both, so I can tell my opinion like Alboreto did. My opinion is that the turbo intercooler is more exciting and faster. The standard 328 hasn't a very good exhaust sound (while the stock turbo has) and just ties the turbo boost when it goes over 6000 RPM: that means almost never, unless you are on track like Alboreto did. The only real advanage the 328 has, is the bigger power until 3000 RPM, no more. And then, what Alboreto couldn't say, is that if you turn a bit the wastegate screw, the turbo intercooler gains 30-35 hp without destroying the engine and becomes way faster than any other 3x8 model. I drove a bit my GTS turbo intercooler (sold to Greece) with a bit more boost than the stock: It was impressive how fast it was. So, please forget Alboreto, that tested the cars just on a track and just two of them, not many like I did: I owned four turbo intercooler and two 328. Mine is just an opinion, of course, but that engine is great, and this is not just my opinion. ciao

I can understand, that you Italians praise the 208 cars. But I can also tell you, that for most folks the 208 cars are just a cheap alternative for the italian market to save that huge italian luxury tax back in those days. And what means 'better'? Those cars are now classics and the reason, why a 'vetro' is much more expensive than a 328 is the same reason, why Porsche 911 F-model is much more expensive than a G-model. I would even say, a Carrera 3,2 is the better car compared to a Carrera RS 2,7 The 'problem' of the 328 is simply the mix of 70s origin with 80s design elements. Funny, that with the testarossa it is contrary. In this case, the latest F512M with that strange mix of 80s origin with 90s style is the most sought after model. That could lead me to the conclusion, that the 80s were indeed the 'dark years of car design'. Best Regards Martin
Martin, you won't be surprised that, with two 328s in the garage, I tend to defend that car somewhat. Many workers at the Ferrari factory called the 328 "our little jewel" as they considered it the perfect car of the family. These days, prices here for a steel carbed 308 and for a 328 are more or less the same: there is a Giallo 1989 328 GTS w. 10.000 certified kms for sale at the present for 176.000 euros. As for the F512M, well...it may have a mix of 80s origins with 90s style, but to my eye it has no style at all: it is downright ugly... Rgds

Totally agree. I still remember the huge disappointment after I always loved the Boxer, when I saw the first pictures of the testarossa. Prefer small cars? Me too. What's your daily driver? Actually I don't have a "Daily" in Paris, even if I have a 2007 VW "Polo" in the garage; but I almost never use it. You go faster by the "métro", and without the hassle of finding a parking space...but a 100hp FIAT 500 must be a lot of fun! The 328 is the Ferrari "Porsche 911": fantastic to drive, reliable, rock solid. The turbo intercooler is the same, but more rare. The best car in the world is not a Ferrari, is an aircooled 911. But this is another issue: Ferrari are better looking, usually. ciao
As for the turbo intercooler, I think the opinion of one that knows and owns all the range has to be read carefully. Maybe not shared, of course. Now we can judge and compare cars that are all old and no more a status symbol, so we can judge them for what they are and no more, with much more serenity than in 1986. The turbo intercooler is a great car, exactly like a 328 is. But more rare and exotic. Of course you can prefer one or the other, but both are great cars, trust me.ù Please don't forget we are talking about the most appreciated and succesful Ferrari model ever, the 308 and his sisters: they are all fantastics, so it's always very hard to say "the best is...". Among them there are models and features that I (me) like more (all the GTB, the steel drysump, turbo models, 328, QV, 16", deep spoiler) and some less (all "i", the USA version, the glass, 14", slim spoiler), but I like VERY MUCH them all. ciao
Really, I have always thought that you cannot compare a Ferrari and a Porsche: they are too different in more way than one. But no Porsche has even given me the emotion that Ferraris gave me just by looking at them (well, the "old ones"; it stopped more or less in 1999. The new ones...well, it's not the same) Rgds
You are right. But I had them both, so I can compare them: two very different cars, but both great. The 911 is a better car, but emotion is all for the Ferrari: i sold the Porsche (I had all the three 3.2 g50 models, coupè targa and cabrio) and I'm happy with Ferrari now. Two very different things. One is great for everyday use too (the 911, of course), but the other is breathtaking and simply gorgeous. No game there... ciao

Don't agree Compared with the raw feel, which especially the carb 308 delivers, I vote against all refined G-models. And because there was no 2,7 F-model except the RS, I would say, power aside, 308 - 911S 2,4 (F-model) Though the first G-models came in 1973, Porsche was years ahead of Ferrari in cultivating their cars. My dad owned a 1972 2,4 911 S (F) and test drove a 1977 2,7 S (G) and then bought a 308 GT4 This is, what I like the most on my 308 GTB. The raw, straight feeling of a driving machine. Yes, 2.7 S, could be. 3.2 g50 is the best engine and gearbox with the old body and old suspension system. Coming to turbo intercooler prices, a 7000 km (4500 miles) one (real mileage), complete of everything, was sold, by an Italian dealer, to a German dealer at 110 k euro last week. Not bad. ciao
i had a 79 308 GTB dry sump and now a GTB turbo 1989 cars are similar and different at the same time while for the look i prefer the old 308 70's look, the 2000 turbo engine will leave the carbed 3000 in the dust. it may be born for italian rules as a cheap alternative BUT believe me: in his last version the V8 turbo is a fantastic car and VERY fast. it is not a cheap alternative but a real sport car that gives you great sensations. it is probably the more fun and wild to drive of the entire series...until you have not driven one on full boost do not understimate it!
By far, and the QV too. Just the 328 is as fast as that small mighty 2 liter engine. 100% true. You didn't believe in advance: now you have it, and you finally saw the light... And, coming back to the topic and talking about prices, the early model WITHOUT intercooler, now costs even more than the intercooled as it's the very first and better looking, even if the engine is much less powerful and looks to be of ten years before instead of just three. ciao

I will tell you this: when I got my first 911 (a 3.2 g50 targa) I went with a friend to take the car. In the long come back journey he drove the 911 and was ahead with my everyday car. Sometimes I gave a look in the rear mirror and I saw something like an ugly frog, really disappointing. I though many times "WTF did i get? that's disgusting!". But the car is great to drive. In any case then I sold it and now I feel much better with a Ferrari, even if the car is not so perfect. ciao
