    Albert, the crankshafts are bomb proof, short of some massive oil supply issue I doubt you'll find problems with the crank. The rods are also very good, heavy but will take the force of turbocharging with ease. The pistons are the weak spot compared to the technology today, get new ones from CPS, they are Italian and make excellent pistons for the 308 series engines. The heads also have a tendancy to crack a the plug to seat and seat to coolant passage, esp on the 208's I have a set of 208 heads from Brasil that both are cracked clean thru, had to source a new set for that owner. The heat of the turbo engines is impressive. With current tech and modern materials a fair amount of that lost energy to heat can be reclaimed.

    If you're going to be using this as a driver then I recommend you getting a modern turbo. I can't think of a downside in doing so, more efficient, more power and a wider power band. An intercooler would really help, compressed air from a turbo is HOT, simple physics, no intercooler limits the boost i.e. the amount of compression that can be done, I'd say somewhere between 5~7 psi. above that and intake temps climb to where detonation is a real problem.

    increase the compression with new pistons, swap out to a modern turbo and 5~7 psi without and intercooler would result in a lot more usable power then you get in OEM trim.

    I designed and built a supercharged 750Hp 3.5L 308 2v motor a couple yrs ago, it's very easy to get BIG power out of these motors. I'm not alone either, an old member here also boosted a 308 with staggering power numbers, now he's building a V12 from scratch.

    Thank you very much for all the info, SMG2, and excuse me for the late answer. I know CPS, I already purchased from them a set of 12 pistons: they are great, I will buy from them a new set if (as I think) I will have to replace the pistons.

    As for the turbocharger, I share your opinion, but I also want a 100% original car (at least from the outside, who cares of the pistons, rods and of what there is inside the turbocharger and engine). So no intercooler, no different turbocharger, but maybe I can have a custom made zero clearance billet machined compressor impeller inside. I'm very doubtful also in increasing the compression ratio: how can I manage the spark advance, with that stupid old FI and ignition system? I think I should change the ignition too, or the car would not work at all: at this point I would have another car, a I thing I don't like.

    In the early 208 turbo the wastegate Factory setting is 0.6 bar (8,7 PSI), but i think that with 98 OCTANE special gasoline we have here you can go up to 0,7 - 0,8 bar (10,1 - 11,6 PSI).

    The Intercooled one has 1,05 bar (15,2 PSI) and works great, but has a watercooled turbocharger with a big air to air Behr intercooler, an higher compression ratio (7.5:1 instead of 7:1) and above all a much more intelligent FI and ignition system. All that raised the max torque from 240 Nm at 4800 RPM to 328 Nm at 4100 RPM: this number alone shows how big was the turbo cars improvement in just three years.

    I will let you know when the engine will be opened and rebuilt.

    I did this upgrade recently as my original was broken.

    Ferrari 208 Turbo.

    the result is than is not significant diference with the original , and is 4 times more expensive than an original , and need oils and pipes adaptations at extra cost.
    of course is not a ferraripart and the price is creasy wen received the part is small turbo.
    but i cannot identifie the manufacturer as they grid the Brand.
    this is it .

    Modern turbo systems with ECU's raise the pressure at low RPM to get the turbo wheel spinning faster. Then the pressure is backed off at higher Engine speeds. That's how the lag issue was solved on my Audi TTRS.

    What you want is a Garrett GTX3067R turbocharger. You'll need to do some work to the manifold and downpipe, but that is the best turbo available for this application. I would expect it to spool at least 500 rpm sooner than the original turbo.

    Thanks you very much, Aaron: this is in any case a very interesting info that is always better to know. But I want to keep the car original at least from the outside, so I cannot replace the shell of the KKK K26 nor change the manifolds. In any case I found that just changing the muffler with a modern one (I have a Tubi Style) the turbo starts spooling 700-800 RPM sooner: that's really impressive.

    If I want the car 100% original, I just have to install the OEM muffler: very easy, very cheap and very quick.
