Actually there probably isn't a big difference between the two; I am struggling to understand what point of view would be valid in this case without being biased.

In all my years of track events, I can't remember someone being asked to leave the premises. They must be real idiots .

3 people who claimed they had track experience were asked to leave after their first session due to the following circumstances:

    1. Ferrari Scuderia backed up on the track. Yes actually stopped and put it in reverse because he missed 'pit in'

    2. BMW was traveling at 50mph or less the entire track and then was black flagged for 3 laps, ignored it and then pit in/out at the closed pits around the cones.

    3. Nissan GTR for driving like a maniac and drag racing on the straight to nearly losing it a few times and not obeying the flaggers.

So that is why they were asked to leave, not a single person other than them were asked by anyone to leave. The track did NOT ask anyone due to receiving tickets that was publicity by the track because they were receiving calls from the press.

Next item - 100 cars pulled over? It was profiling at it's best. Anyone in a sports car was pulled over. People not with the run were on the side of the road as well. Sure there were people speeding and whether they are doing 75-175 in a 65 it's speeding. 1 bad apple spoil a bunch? Sure, but to pull them all over and harass them is profiling. I was pulled over at 65 in a 65 and held for 45 minutes fo no reason and ultimately let go just as 70 other were.

Now there were 24 tickets for non-moving violations, certainly not reason to pull a car over, I didn't know that you could see an expired inspection on a car if it was passing a trooper at 65 mph that was stationary? Furthermore since when is a civilian able to visually measure speed? That's where the reports of cars doing 100 mph came from.

Not a single car was clocked by radar or vascar. All speeding tickets read 'paced' or 'speed not reasonable or prudent'. Interesting enough the later one's definition is according to weather conditions. If it's snowing and the limit is 65 but you should be doing less you may receive a ticket since the conditions are not 'reasonable or prudent' to be doing 65 in a 65 during a snow storm. Honestly I do not see these tickets holding up in court and ultimately should be reduced or dismissed but that will be for the court to decide.

As far as troopers on a website, it is nearly impossible to screen every single person on a website. The police troll all the website forums with bogus names, email addresses, etc. Unless you had a magic crystal ball you are dead in the water on that one.

The key is to have a police escort from begining to end, and maybe after this rally they will afford us that. After all that would be good press for all parties.

'200+ exotics gathered and drove 100 miles for a common cause - when the economy is struggling these fortunate people have the means to give to a charity and with the support of the local Police Dept. it was made possible! They drove in formation at a controlled spirited speed by the New York State Police. Watching 200+ skittle colored cars go by was simply breathtaking'

Now that would be great for everyone. Until that day comes there will be these unfortunate incidents, although at this point I have to say that even bad press is good press. My customer base has widened and sponsors are popping up left/right. So no regrets, it was an awesome day and we were able to grant a terminally ill child and their family a wish! Somethings are priceless.

My point was not that someone could effectively keep a policeman off a public website. Why would you want to do that anyway? Some of the guys I've met in the tristate section were Ferrari owners AND cops.

The day I believe what the media says in situations like this is the day I will believe that the roads in NY will be paved to perfection, taxes will be lower, gas will go down to a dollar per gallon, detailing dynamics will give away free washes, Ferrari Chat is for Ferrari owners only.

    IT WAS AN AMAZING EVENT.

TURKEY RUN IS THE BIGGEST AND GREATEST RALLY OF THE YEAR

IN SUCH ECONOMICAL TOUGH TIMES, EXOTICS RALLY STILL MANAGES TO RAISE $10,000 + FOR CHARITY AT THEIR EVENTS

WE ALL DRIVE OVER THE SPEED LIMIT, THAT IS WHY WE OWN EXOTIC OR SPORTS CARS.

One involves being careless, unaware of other motorists, and generally off in la-la land. The other involves a higher than average level of concentration, typically a higher than average degree of skill, and almost always a car designed and prepared to go fast.

Generally the cars you see that run across gore points, can't keep in their own lane, and run into people at stop lights are idiots who couldn't be bothered to pay attention to traffic because they're occupied with something other than driving.

In my experience, when someone is driving quickly in a sports car they are passionate about and have no small investment tied up in, they tend to pay quite a lot of attention to keeping the shiny side up.

If you can't honestly comprehend the difference between the two, I would have to honestly ask on what planet you've been driving.

In all fairness to Tuttobene....you make some assumptions i n your response
1: Not ALL people with sportscars/exotics are as good as you may think or say...speaking from personal experience as a HPDE instructor.
2: If you are traveling at a high rate of speed...say 90+ in the left lane and a motorist decides last minute to move to the left...(them not paying attention) you have the recipe for disaster...
that said...I have been on these types of Rally's..they are enjoyable and for a good cause, but personally I have never driven triple digits on public road at peak travel hours...
Seems they ended this Rally at a great venue which allowed for the drivers of these sportscars/exotics to really stretch their legs....EVEN the guy in the F-Car that decided to back up...LOL

You might be passionate about your car and have no small investment tied up in it but all the attention in the world does nothing when you come up on an unsuspecting person at twice their speed and they pull in front of you. Or, you are so caught up in your passion for your not so small investment to understand you can scare the hell out of someone by just blowing by them at twice the legal limit. I live on the same planet as a lot of other people but apparently you don't think too much about them.

No, not everyone behind the wheel of a sportscar is a good driver. However, in the general terms I was speaking, most are better than your average bluehair barreling along in a SUV.

I've seen that "recipe" play out several hundred times in NY traffic over the years-- interestingly enough involving SUVs and family sedans in the vast majority of cases, and yes, sometimes it does end badly. However, in all of the rallies I've participated in, for no small number of years, I have never seen it happen.

That does not mean it can't or won't, but it does mean that some people certainly blow the potential way out of proportion.

I do it a dozen times a day, though not in the manner I'm sure you suspect. I'll be driving along at 70 and some moron will pull into the left lane doing 45 at most, and their lack of attention will be my problem to deal with. It happens every single day, and it annoys the crap out of me when it happens, yet oddly enough I manage to deal with it without a Blues Brothers grade crash. And yes, my passion for driving plays a pretty large part in the outcome.

Aside from the fact that we've established the "over 100 mph" nonsense was, in fact, nonsense, where exactly does "twice the legal limit" come from? You're making quite a lot of pretty grand assumptions and generalizations in an attempt to make a point-- the fallacies of which are getting rather numerous.

No need to continue defending your rallye, I was talking about fast driving on public roads in general. Its not a "grand assumption" that most exotics will get to 110 from 60 quite easily and passion isn't needed to do it.

    tuttebenne,
The guy is obviously a world class driver; much the same as that expert motorcyclist that "passionately" lost his head on the Taconic this past summer. ;)

Not that I'm aware of. There was this one kid that really ticked off the police. What I was told is the cop slid his car into the path of the guys car in such a manor that resulted in smoke rising up from the squad car. Not sure about the details. What some people dont get perhaps is that every driver has to drive their own drive. It is only you that can control your speed and use of judgment. For example I noticed the mustangs in front were REALLY hauling and pushing things. Meanwhile I fell back away from their madness and landed in a group of Ferrari cars. BIG difference. Yes, they were still enjoying their cars, but they were more laid back and selective about time and place. I mean, you could do 55MPH the whole way if you wanted to. Still get to hang with other people with your same sickness for wheels and get to enjoy a great meal and support a good cause.

In just about every run (other events) I find there are always bad eggs. It is up to you to decide to set a "better" example. :)
