I enjoy history, and in the newest weekly newsletter of Pitpass, there is a great article about the history of Turkey, at least for about the prior 2000 years, and how that leads up to the potential elimination of that venue for a Grand Prix in 2007.

Politics in F1, politics all around F1.

    Very interesting!

It's a pity, a brand new circuit that drivers seemed to like.
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!!

Still, Max & Bernie have plenty of places to take their circus.

I've spent time in Greece, Cyprus and Turkey, as well as living in Europe for a long time.

Believe me, this is a VERY big hot topic over there. It would be like if those kooks who think Mexico should be given back California, had their lead kook representing the "country of mexifornia" - people would be up in arms, and rightly so.

It really was an amazingly boneheaded move. I don't think the FIA potentially nixing the race has as much to do with them disagreeing with the message, rather it's disagreeing that F1 should be used as a tool for furthering a political goal. If I were Bernie I'd ditch the race for the stunt they pulled - at least for a few years.

I heard a story that there are plans for a Greek Grand Prix, with a course in Volos.

I thought Russia bailed out some time back due to funds.

It's still on the cards for the future I think.
From what I hear (from my Russian wife, no less!), there is a huge fight among authorities regarding the location of the yet-to-be-built GP circuit around Moscow.
There was talk of building it on an island on the river near Moscow, but that was turned down by the Mayor.
Russian GP is not a priority yet, but it should happen.
I don't think it's a money problem, more a prestige problem among 'oligarchs'.
