Yes, you just pull it out. While pulling, the rectangular push button may come off the switch body (it is clip-on) before the switch unplugs. If this happens, just clip it back on and pull again slowly with some left-right wiggle.

HOLY CRAP. Maybe it is not fixed after all.

Went to install the headlight assemblies I bought. Turns out they weren't correct. So, I cleaned up my old ones.

Took the car for a drive tonight to see how the headlights looked.

Now blowing the 10 amp fuse for instrument lights.

I got out of the car to check to see if I had taillights. That right side yellow light was on again. As I was standing there looking at it, it went off.

Drove home and left the car running. The yellow was not on. I turned the lights of but put the stalk on the first position. The right rear yellow light came on again but left front yellow light was not on.

My first concern: why is the fuse blowing for instrument lights I did not mess with them at all?

Fuse 10? (powers HVAC ECU and instrument dimmer). I'm not sure how you'd isolate a problem with the instrument lighting system. It could be caused by literally dozens of different things. You would have to push pins out of relay panel plugs to divide the circuit into zones (or cut wires and install quick disconnects).

Is it related to your original problem... seems unlikely. You still seem to have a short somewhere, affecting the external lights. Have your solder joints failed in the front light assembly?

Isn't the instrument panel completely separate from external lights.

My thought are a short or defect in the steering column light switch. Doesn't that tie everything together?

The column switch activates relay "b". Relay b has two sets of contacts. One set powers the HVAC ECU and dimmer (via fuse 10), the other set powers the external lights (via fuse 11 & 12). A short in one branch is not going to perceptibly affect the other branch (especially so after one branch's fuse has blown). A short in one branch would have to exceed the capacity of the battery/alternator before the other branch would be affected. The fuses and wiring would melt long before this.

    According to the WSM, yes.

Regarding the instrument lights, yes, somewhat screwed. I can't see how washing the car would blow a fuse, however, even if water got inside the cabin.
For the sidelights, recheck your front lamp assembly wiring/soldering.

Strange. All 3 manuals I have show that fuse labelled as #10. Can you take a photo of your manual for future reference?

I can e mail you a copy of my Manual if you'd like.

Well, I got home tonight, stopped and bought some 10 amp fuses, you know, they had a 25 pack. I thought I might need a few.

Put one in and it did not blow. I left all the lights on 30 minutes and it did not blow, but the right rear yellow light was on just like my original problem.

So I decided to disconnect the front turn signal assembly and the rear yellow light went out.

There is a one in a million chance that my earlier repair had the spring that holds the bulb was shorting.

I put some electrical tape in there and everything is functioning fine again.

    Huh?

    This is driving me nuts!

    How are your lights working?
I’m having similar issues I’m down to sockets or bulbs.

Mine are fixed. Traced to a blue wire connected to a yellow wire in the front turn sgnal. I truly believe this car may have come out of the factory like this.

Juding by the condition of the screw heads on the rear rail lights, this has been taken apart many times.
I believe i had posted pics in this thread.
For bulbs and sockets i recomend Rock Auto. GM compatible.
