Nice afternoon drive until pulling out of the highway, the turn signal dies! And I mean "dies": no clicking sound from the relay, no right or left, nothing ! Except the hazard lights will still work when turned on!!! The fuse is good, the relay is obviously OK but no turn signal with a normal hazard blink...Suggestions? Exorcist indicated? Please help!

On my 308GT4 this same set of symptoms was (is?) a bad hazard lights switch. The turn signals run through the switch apparently so that when the hazards are on the turn signals are off. The PO fixed the problem between my test drive and purchase, so I don't have any more info, and I'm not touching it if it still works!

It could be your signal switch from the steering column.

Take about 15 $100 bills and form into a fan or a tight bundle and light on fire. Wave the smoke all over the car while chanting "Enzo save me, Enzo save me.........

Just kidding but you did ask. Try cleaning the contacts in the emergency flasher switch. Use some contact cleaner and work the switch back and forth vigorously many times. If that doesn't work then you need to start looking at relays and the column switch but not before trying this!

I have fought the turn signal @#%.
I rebuilt the hazard switch (lasted 9 months).
Replaced the hazard switch, no change.
Replaced the relay with EP36 from Advance $11.98 plus tax. IT WORKED!
I have an 81 308 GTSi, I read in the parts thread about the EP36 fix for a 328 (mine is b4 yours and the 328 is after yours).
Note: there is a mention of EP34 in the thread also but it did NOT work in my 308 GTSi.
I say try this first because there are a lot of wires involved removing the switch.
Oh and my hazard lights worked but my turn signals did not, like yours.
Sometimes turn signals worked until I needed them and then they would fail.

Thanks for help but since the Hazards are "clicking" in the relay and the turn signal is silent I assume the problem is in the hazard switch itself with 7 wires to it...Fuse #1 in the left side fuse panel seems OK and my wipers are OK (same fuse). I guess I'll open the console as a 1st step. Darn!

Did you try contact cleaner and working the switch back and forth? You can squirt just a little cleaner into the top of the switch for a first try. Taking the console apart would be my next step though. Good luck!

Hate to beat a dead horse, but have you removed the relay and reseated it (mine worked for a few seconds)
mine was also warm (my wife could not feel the warmth, since she has warm hands).

Believe me I have chased a similar problem.

When I installed the new hazard switch the lights flashed faster like a bulb was burnt out (none was).

I even unplugged the ground and sprayed contact cleaner in the relay board.

    Maybe I had two problems.

    Good luck!

Bumping an old thread for same issue.

Just picked my 1985 308 QV up from the shop where it had quite a bit of work done (again), and the center console was off for a portion of it.

Driving away, I notice the turn signals don't work. The hazards do (they click and flash) but turn signal stalk gives nothing. No click, no flash.

Mechanic suggests bad relay. He says it's Ferrari part Flasher 61111200, no longer available, but an EFL-9 three-prong flasher should work (1978 Super Beetle and various BMW). Will take a couple days to get one, so in the meantime I consult this thread and get a Novita EP36 flasher from O'Reilly / Autozone.

Replacing the relay does nothing. Same behavior. Hazards work, turn signals don't.

Start messing around with the hazard switch.

If I hold the hazard switch about 1/2 of the way through its travel, I can get it so it only lights up the right side turn signals. Going all the way does both sides.

Now, if I hold the hazard switch about 1/3 of the way through its travel, I can get to a point where the red hazard indicator in the instrument cluster flashes (and I hear a click from the relay) BUT neither side turn signal is actually flashing.

Holding the switch AT THAT POINT, I can activate left and right signals using the stalk on the steering column.

Further messing around, I see that there's a point slightly less than a third through the hazard switch's travel where the red hazard flasher on the instrument cluster is NOT yet flashing, BUT I can still activate the left and right turn signals using the steering column stalk.

So it almost seems like the "off" position of the hazard switch is displaced. If "off" were about 1/3 down the travel, the hazards would be off but I could use the turn signals.

Any advice appreciated -- I would very much like to drive the car (and Concorso is coming up in a few days!)

    Cheers

    Michael,
I had the same thing happen last summer after my 85 QV was parked for about 3 weeks - went for a drive, turn signals didn't work! Hazards still worked. I did some reading here, found a suggested solution, tried it, and it worked - turn signals and hazards worked fine after the solution.

The solution was - toggle the hazard switch on and off about 50 - 60 times! The problem is regular surface corrosion buildup in the switch contacts over time, creating too much resistance for the switch to pass sufficient voltage. A simple, quick, easy, and free fix - toggling the switch a few dozen times wears through the surface corrosion buildup layer on the contacts.

    Cheers,
    Gordon
