I have a couple of Macs and a Blackberry. And a first generation iPod. So, I'm not totally inept with technology but it is def not a hobby or an interest of mine. My wife and I have cable TV. We have a cable box and a DVD player. It all works pretty well if I can remember which remote to use. So, I'm technologically pretty naive. We want to get a device to record TV shows for later viewing. Like a TeVo or whatever has replaced that if it's obsolete now. What would you recommend that is easy to install, easy to use for us? THANKS! Uro
Your cable company probably offers a better version of your cable box that has a built in DVR. That would be the easiest I'd think.
+1 The non-integrated solutions get pretty clunky. If you're like easy tech, call the cable company and ask for a DVR upgrade. They'll even install and set it up for you.
I didn't believe the hype then I got one for myself to ease all the remote control confusion. Do it, you'll be glad you did, and your wife will thank you. Works for all my needs, replaces the time warner controller/tv/stereo/dvd... everything (except the Playstation3, but that's cause I haven't bought the add-on yet). http://www.logitech.com/en-us/promotional-items/devices/7193 99 bucks refurbed when you use this coupon code: logi_h1_9711
Dean, You would do well to hear Randy's advice about this thing,,,we had to get our son to program it,he hooked it up to the computer!,,,but it's really neat works well and has lasted a long time. Cheers, RE Ps,our SciAtl dvr recorder does not have enuff record space for me,for instance Peggy can't stand Boardwalk Empire so I want to record the whole series and watch it all at once over a two or three day Nucky fest...I usually have to erase a bunch of stuff to find room, bummer,, I wanted to watch Downton Abbey too...I've asked cable co about this and no joy. You might ask about this... And another thing they will only record two shows at a time, and you have to watch one you're recording if you're watching(on ours it won't record two and let us watch another,at the same time)
I have the Logitech Harmony 1100 and love it , boutght it with the RF extender from Amazon, save about $200 vs. buying at the local Worst Buy Store.
We have an older DVR downstairs with 160GB, not enough space for two people to share. Upstairs we have a newer DVR with a 1TB disk - it's enough for a couple of teenagers and myself. If you have multiple TV's, there are DVR's out now that can share content between TV's - worth the extra money imo, but haven't gone there yet.
