What happened to this show? I actually liked it. Did it get pulled off the air?!!! Argh. There is basically nothing good left on tv. What the heck is going on? Is it that hard to find good programming?! I am getting quite sick of the current crop of shows, they are all: 1) Depressing 2) Full of gore 3) Usually involve someone getting killed/maimed/raped 4) Mindless... Now, don't get me wrong. I like such shows ON OCCASION. But it seems like every show has this formula now a days... Used to like ER - now hate. Can this show get any more depressing. Gee, they haven't lit a young baby on fire yet, and shown it squirming on the ground. But its coming. Used to like detective shows (love Monk). Now they are deplorable. Usually a woman is raped/beaten/disfigured/tortured/etc... What happened to actual crime solving?! I can't believe I will say this...but I actually miss Barretta, Starsky and Hutch/ Perry Mason/etc. How many different version of Law and OOrder do we need?!!! Law and Order Law and Order: Life on the Streets Law and Order: the dead hooker series Law and Order: I killed everyone Law and Order: The sequel... What ever happened to comedy? You know. Cosby. Freinds. Cheers. What happened to corny shows like Knight Rider, Simon and Simon, etc, etc... Does every frikken show have to be a mentally draining exercise in the futility of life?! Argh.
I'm with you. Like all media, TV finds it easier to copy success than develop new concepts. That's why movies, popular fiction and television shows are all derivative. Right now, the publishing industry is looking for Da Vinci Code clones. Plus, they don't give shows a chance to find their audience any longer. If they don't succeed by the first or second episode they're off the air. That may be good business, but it doesn't provide very good entertainment.
It was a small order that got smaller. The network is not going to air all the shows they shot. I'm bummed because we do the post production. We had a lot of this this year, orders being cut short. Between moving time slots, pre-emptions and the like, it's hard for a show to get a following.
That show is pretty cool, Dale... Right now about the only shows I look forward to are: Boston Legal Desperate housewives Monk Prison Break Lost.... Satellite used to have some goodies on there, but its all re-runs now. Buy Me Flip this house Fip that house etc are relaxing...
I think this has less to do with shows copying shows, than its the case that all the shows are created by the SAME people. "From the makers of THIS... From the makers of THAT" Jerry Bruckheimer, Dick Wolf, Mark Burnet pretty much produce all the CSI / Cop / Reality shows respectively in that order. This homogenization of TV means everything shares the same Cinematography, Soundtracks, Storylines, Editing and general look and feel. Which sucks, because it leaves little room for the competition to develop, which eventually means the quality of the talent in the TV industry/hollywood goes down.
I must admit, the Lost / Desparate housewives producers have come up with some great Television. Lost almost reminds me of the great television series V. It has that sci-fi / yet human combination which makes it great.
Anyone have any favorite shows that didn't "make it?" Book of Daniel qualifies for me... They also had a cute show 6 months ago about a female fbi agent, whose father gave her advice and helped her iwth her cases...can't remember the name? Anyone remember this? Cute show...made it 3 episodes or so... They also had some show about a newly minted senator...bucking the system. Can't remember that one either. Lasted a month or so... A year ago they had some Wallstreet knock-off on too. Liked that show. Lasted 2 episodes... Anyone remember the name of these shows? But if you manage to maim/kill/molest/ or kidnap - you are good to go!
Dr. Katz on Comedy Central. Loved that show, was sad to see it go. I miss Mike Hammer too. Have to settle for DVDs now. Like you I don't really enjoy any of the current offerings, save for Curb your Enthusiasm. I'm not sure why most of the programming now focuses on such depressing stuff. I guess it's the masses wanting to see someone in worse shape than they are. Coming next season........ Bankruptcy court TV. Watch your friends and neighbors lose their assets live! CNTHD! The Central Torture Network...24hrs a day...see the latest beheadings, rapes, brutalities of all sorts and at the top of every hour...the lates update on disease and suffering in the third world.....now lifelike in High Definition 1080i. Yeeeeeeessshhh. No wonder I watch old movies.
Most of what is being lamented here is poor at best. Bill Sawyer is 100% correct. The only thing he left out was that most of the individuals involved in Development really don’t know what their doing or take a risk because they’re afraid of loosing their job that was so hard to get in the first place. So they choose to play it safe, i.e. steal a concept and put a “twist” on it. It's the publics own fault. If the viewing public had half a brain or any kind of intellect shows like Arrested Development would have solid audience numbers. The risks that are taken are very rarely rewarded. In a nation that consumes fast food over slow food is it any wonder our television reflects the same tastes? Show’s I recommend: (not in any particular order) Arrested Development Frontline 24 HUFF Veronica Mars Everybody Hates Chris Family Guy The Simpsons Nature Nova LOST To name a few. I haven’t seen Grey’s Anatomy yet but I’ve heard it’s very good and worth taking time out of your schedule for.
I love Book of Daniel. They are showing the unaired shows on the website only. Go to NBC.com and click on Book of Daniel. Every Friday they put up the new one. It stays up all week until the new one goes up I think. I watched the new one last night. You have to use IE or netscape, i cant get it to work in Mozilla.
I guess that's why I'm watching Dancing with the Stars. Caught another good one on Style network - "Try My Life". Generally involves a snotty teenage girl trading places with Type-A personality Dad for a week.
Grey's Anatomy is very good. My fave is still West Wing - too bad it's been cancelled now, too. No more shows after this season. Neil
Only TV shows I watch regularly are Lost, Invasion, and the two hour block on FOX (Simpsons, War at Home, Family Guy, American Dad). I only care for FG in that list, but AD is still funny. Simpsons lost it a while ago, but this past Sunday's was pretty good. Oh yea, I watch Conan all the time Well, I download it.
Best show that died a quick death was Titus (although the wife is now on Lost), but if you want decent comedy, try My Name is Earl, or Scrubs...generally Scrubs can make me laugh even when I'm watching the same episode on DVR for the 3rd time (maybe I'm a retard, but it still makes me laugh).
Favorite show on TV by far. Wittiest banter I've seen spoken in a long time. Better even than its predecessor show, which I was a big fan of: The Practice. Doesn't hurt that Julie Bowen is hot-t-t. Great to see MJ Fox on TV again.
I watched the first season of Rescue Me and I really liked it, but didn't have FX when season 2 came around. I like Nip/Tuck, but don't watch it regularly. I've seen almost all of season 1 and then almost all of season 3. I almost forgot, I watch Aqua Teen Hungar Force a lot, but there haven't been many new episodes
anyone notice that most of the interesting shows that are now gone had a liberal leaning or were what the leaders of our government might call sacrilegious?
