Anyone know more about this builder? I'm not thinking about a turbine in one of the GTO's but this is nutty! Prolly like the turbine bike Leno has/had... not a lot of torque, but once it gets rolling, accelerate till you run out of fuel... What engines is he using? it says 750lbs thrust + afterburner... Someone please upload some of the images before he exceeds his bandwidth so others can continue to see this insanity http://strangetalk.net/viewtopic.php?t=71517 Chelle
apperantly same guy put one of those engines in a nissan 280zx too.. http://www.public.iastate.edu/~srander/t63289zx%20video.mpg Chelle
Looks like the guy building the Eclipse is the same guy who built the MR2 http://strangetalk.net/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=6410 Cool pics of both lower in the the linked thread
I shoulda been more clear... the eclipse "only" has a single turbine lol.... wonder if he kept fwd setup to get the eclipse rolling ... can you see a traffic cop pulling in behind ya in that .... blip the afterurner and just singe his eyebrows.... melt the lil lights on the roof of the cruiser... something tells me playing up blondeness wouldn't get me a written warning .. The quote from Supraforums was the best... "Could you imagine trying to pull that car on the highway and the damn thing fires up a turbine engine next to you? BEST EVER! - Kingsoup"
update from the guy who initially posted the info on those turbine cars Apperantly they actually run fast: "To all the other boards: I don't really care that you got the pics and info - it's a sweet project . But kinda try and limit further distrubution. Also, here are some answers to a few questions posed on different forums. As discussed earlier in my thread, the hole you are seeing in the firewall IS NOT an air intake. It's a cutout for the starter to the turbine. There is a cutout in the bottom of the car near the rear of the hatch with an aluminium scoop to help pull air in. The vaccuum of the engine is quite large and it should do fine. Also, due to the massive amount of air being pulled through the compartment, heat really isn't an issue. The only thing that gets hot is the nozzle coming out of the engine, and that is heat shielded for it's exit out of the bumper. The original engine is indeed in the car along with the transmission, so it's fully functional without use of the jet. The project is not intended for drag racing, but more for top speed runs. He plans on running up to freeway speeds or so and then turning on the turbine for extra fun And yes, they are pretty fast. The MR2 in the earlier pics ran a GPS verified 186mph on the salt flats - when they were in VERY ****ty condition. That car is good for over 200mph (and yes, the wing is functional, and very needed at speed). The 280z wasn't as fast, but it was shaft driven. It ran about 165mph, but damn, it pulled insane from about 70-130. "
