thanks Ash, I thought I was being more subtle than that though :D

Fchat is being invaded lately with people that have no sense of humour ....or they drive English cars :D

no offense Ding, but Matchbox want their templates back to make some more Elises :D

Hey John, I don't know how many F40's you've heard, but they shouldn't sound too bad while idling. Quite meaty actually, and smooth.

It is very common for them to have one of or all... bad throttle synch, fouled plugs or bad injectors though.....

Cat cars are a little subdued, but still sound tough.

well I've heard Bevan's F40 quite a few times and it always disappoints Phil, you're probably use to the GTE and LM ones that have a higher idle but you expect such an imposing car to dominate all over the rev range.

I think I'll take my recorder next time Bevan's F40 turns up at the track ...I'm waiting for PP to jump in here and tell me something I already know (I'm a dickhead:D) but I've loved the F40 ever since it came out and have a tape of one going around a track with some racing driver and a girlie reporter from an English mag squealing all the time whereas they were being talkative and objective for all the other "supercars" they were testing but the driver was concentrating all the time and girlie squealing..the car sounded incredible, going off to listen to tape again.

How did the boys do at the track ?

Should I get that 328GTB or go for a tired 355 Phil ?

Luckily I have a sense of humour or I would've got nasty over that comment. :D

There was a hairdresser spec 355 Spider 1999 Rosso/tan with 49k on the clock for $150k the other day. They are getting cheaper every day it seems.

I'd absolutely go for the 328 GTB. But you need to buy it at a price that allows for it's condition to be improved within reason. Don't try to steal it, just buy it well.

A tired 355 is a bigger money pit than a 328 will ever be. Original outlay is the smallest hurdle!.. for most anyway!?

you make no sence, you need to be restrained. and where did you get the idea i was a friend of yours.

The F40 is quite a desirable car, even at idle, and it has been the work of Ferrari which has enabled the construction of such a beautiful piece of machinery.

Maybe it was a guy in a shop who designed it or put it together, but the cavallino rampante displayed out the front of the shop meant something. That guy was backed by a family, a family born from Enzo Ferrari.

p.s. it wasnt just a guy in a shop

no even, I was trying not to call this idiot a WANKER because I believe he and his alter ego f50 hotmail are full of it.

Stop reading the magazines and go blag a ride in lots of Ferraris and get a grasp on reality, they're just gorgeous cars made to a huge price and marketed like Microshaft, they're everywhere on T-shirts, pens, bags, perfume, umbrellas, etc etc

Passion ?? you have no idea what passion is about!

See how much passion you have for them when the bloody thing gets an air lock in the cooling system and keeps overheating every couple of miles on the way back from the track and your missus is giving you grief while you sit on the side of the road and the hoon brigade hurl abuse and other things at you and the car.

Or if you are 200kms from home and the front distributor advance packs it in and you are reduced to a 4 cylinder that won't do more than 80kph.

Or you go for a quick spin and the fuel pump packs it in on the major intersection of the Gold Coast hwy and those same hoons are flicking cigarettes at your boy and car.

No, this passion thing is a marketing ploy, worked on me then got the car and realised the truth.

I still love most of the time I spent with the car but when they were about to cut the roof off I remember the fireys saying "it's a Ferrari, are you sure you want us to cut the roof off ?" I yelled out "cut the thing off and get me out of this thing!" , the bs written about exotica had gotten way out of hand.

    >ahh sigh.... i have nothing more to add

the only smart thing you said all day

    Peter.

Was yours a Cat car or open? I've only heard 2 LM's, but I've heard many (20+?) different road car F40 of cat, non cat, modified types. I think they're nice sounding in most cases, it's just badly tuned/problematic ones that sound bad.

It was a pre-cat version. Idle was so so, but when I used to listen to it from the outside going down the PI straight with my wife driving (she was good in the straights) there was almost no noise...certainly a quiter and less inspiring noise than when she was driving my old boxer at the same place.

I can tell you exactly what he'd say.....

" The F40 epitomises the peak of Ferrari's genius. Even now, nothing matches it in looks, sound or performance. It's the best car ever, and there will never be anything to equal it"

    I could be wrong...but I doubt it :)
