I think the market is a bit soft at the moment, but in-general, the Ferrari community seems to heavily discount modified cars. Maybe it would have sold higher if it was cleaned up a bit more and wasn't "due for a timing belt service"?

Takes a particular buyer to purchase a car that immediately needs a qualified tech to remove and service the engine of a turbo'd Boxer. Who knows what you'll find in there!

    Good day Romano,

Although the price may seem very low, there are a number of factors which to me explains the selling price. For example the car has some immediate service needs in terms of an Engine Out service, tires, etc. However, the underside pics show other potential costs such as repairs to the front spoiler, suspension bushings, possible brake system refreshment, etc. The most notable factor is the twin turbo setup, as now the car has been substantially modified which now creates a gamble/uncertainty for the new owner (e.g. how well was the turbo setup done, were there any permanent mods done on the car for the setup, are there any issues, finding a shop that can suitably maintain the turbo setup, etc). On top of all this, we are at the end of the Season for most areas, we have some ongoing and unsettling Geopolitical events, and that the Turbo Mod may restrict where the car can be registered (so limiting some markets/buyers). All combined, it is not a surprising result at least to me.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Make me sad to see to see that happen to a perfectly good car.

    I thaught so too sam,
and you are right: you not know when you go deeper what else you will find.
but such car only can buy someone who is mechanic/technician and can do all work by himself and of course know how to do. it would be a never ending "construction site" like my koenig competition.
those 141k US % are around 131k €, the lowest price BBi offered just now at mobile de in germany is nearly 220k €, so I think this one who was buying this 512 BBi twinturbo got the car very cheap. hope he will and can enjoy it :)

Its an excellent lesson to those that choose to modify perfectly good cars.

    Good day Romano,

Understood. However, to me your comparison is not really valid as the German car is presumably original (mostly) as compared to this car which has had some significant modifications. Secondly, the German car you mentioned is "offered" at 220K and so the actual sale price could be less and most likely would be because it is the end of the Season. So, the price difference could be significantly less than the numbers presented. I think if one factors the above and other items, I suspect the price differential would not be as high as it appears on the surface.

    Cheers,

    Sam

    could be so sam
but I I see what all is in the twinturbo it cost a lot of money and also labor to do this all.
the season just now is of course not a good time to sell such a car. but otherwise this one who is now the proud owner has time until spring next year to fix all

And none of those expensive modifications made it worth one cent more. The point of the conversation is how that in fact lowered the value.

Does anyone know if an f-chatter bought the turbo BBi, c/n 46113, off BaT? (their handle is @Yesiama_pirate)

I think the only way an original paint car that was driven under 2000 miles in 21 years sold that cheap was because of the turbos. Most buyers don't want the risk of a car that may have been thrashed on. I think it's saving grace was that the man who installed the turbos put very few miles on it post turbo. It had all the service records supporting the installation of the snails and the milage recorded on services post turbo. It was only set to 3.7 ponds of boost at full power- hardly a strain on the engine and drivetrain. Additionally the auction went off on a weekday during business hours. I can't imagine the price being that low on a weekend. Another part of the "perfect storm" was the US election. It was only days away and most of the "smart money" was on the sidelines awaiting the outcome. Post election 2 BBis with similar milage each went for $300,000 each a week apart. Granted they were original and clean- but putting this one back to original and cleaning it up may be relatively inexpensive- if anything on a Ferrari is actually inexpensive :) The car was well bought and there is equity to work against if it needs anything really expensive. I understand that it's at Gary Bobileff's shop getting an engine-out service and an engine/ engine bay restoration but leaving the body and paint all original. I'd love to have that car at 141K.
