A good friend of ours has a twin sister.

Another good friend of ours just had triplets a few months ago (2 identical, 1 fraternal, they did in vitro and 1 of the eggs split), all girls.

A couple we know at church has twin girls about the same age as our middle son.

Compared to the triplets, twins seem relatively easy.

In any case, congratulations Pat!!! :)

Will do Carbon. We are still getting over the shock of the news. It will be a good thing but quite the adjustment. We were totally ready for the second one and now there will be a third.

Hey, if it's not your first, it shouldn't be so bad. You made all the mistakes with the first one, right? ;)

Thanks Dean. Twins will be easier then triplets for sure. I think I would have dropped over if she would have told me triplets. But it is all a blessing and will be a lot of fun after the adjustment phase goes away.

You always crack me up. Thanks for the congrats and I will talk to Amy about the offer to be the Godparents. Hoping the Lotus won't have to go but if it does it is the only reason I would willingly sell it.

Congrats! My wife has an identical twin and they are very much the same (it is strange at times) and yet they are very much different. It's very easy for me to tell them apart.

A good friend of mine had twins last year and his wife is pregnent again with a 40% chance of twins again! 2 sets of twins under the age of 2!

I have twin boys - it is absolutely wonderful. There is something amazing about having twins - puts you in a very special and fortunate category in life. Wait until you see how much attention you get...and twice the love.

    Now for the downside...

    1) Kiss your life good-bye as you know it. Sorry, its true. Say good-bye to your friends, clubs, and everyone else. This is now a full-time job in addition to your day job. You no longer have any hobbies.

    2) God, I hope you love your wife. Because under the best of circumstances, you will be arguing A LOT. The stress level of having twins is huge. Statistically, 65% of marriages don't survive having twins. My wife and I hardly ever argued, until we had twins. Its a HUGE amount of work, and unfortunately most of it falls on the woman (Most likely the guy is at work). You will come home from work, and your wife will want a break. Guess what - so will you. Let the disharmony begin.

    3) I hope you don't need sleep. With twins, someone is ALWAYS crying. You have to feed them every 3-4 hours - a piece. And the feeding times raely coincide.

Overall, totally worth it. But it is stressful. VERY STRESSFUL.

Thank you very much for the inside info. This is exactly what I'm looking for. I can imagine the rewards that it does bring. How old are your twins now and when if ever does it start to get better? I remember having our first child and after about 6 months it started to become real easy (if I can even say that) but we did get into a routine with the 1st one. Do twins eventually settle into a routine?

My twins are now 3.5. We also have a 3rd child. The single child is a walk in the park, compared to twins.

Having twins is an amazing treat, especially if they are identical. If you are an agnostic, it will make you believe in God. I walk around all the time feeling like I won one of life's unknown lotteries by having twins. It's just the coolest thing. Almost makes the rest of my workday tolerable :).

The first 3 years are tough. Mostly because of marital expectations. I was naive. I figured my life might change some, but not a lot. Figured I could still go do my hobbies 3-4 hours on a Sat/Sun. Sleep 8 hours. Get a break when I got home from a bad day at work.

If you just mentally prepare yourself for the idea that your life now "100%" revolves around your kids and spouse, you will be well off. Its very difficult to come to an understanding between your spouse when you are stressed all of the time, and sleep deprived...oh, forget about sex. It really isn't on your wife's mind.

Remember also, that many twins are born premature. Ours were. Due to this they are fragile, and it takes longer to feed them, comfort them. You worry all of the time. This is not a case of calling the next door neighbor to babysit, while you go to a movie...

It finally started getting better when they got to be 3 - we finaly felt comfortable putting them in daycare for a couple of hours here and there.

We were expecting not to have any time to ourselves when we found we were expecting (thinking just one) so now we have been thinking and preparing ourselves (or trying to) knowing we are not going to have any time to ourselves at all. Although I have to say I'm a bit of a worrywart and do have concerns about premature babies.
