The premier cru eludes you and your wallet. Imagine two bottles just arrived at your door. Which would you carefully lay down, and which would you send back? Those are your only two choices.

Well, a bit of a false binary because I am CERTAIN the Lynch-Bages would fit in my stomach. No need for rack space, only a couple of lamb chops to pair it with.

That said, if I had to pick I would likely keep the Smith Haut Lafitte. 2018 was a great year for Bordeaux so I would guess it has the goods to age longer.

It is a good question, and a tough choice for me since I’ve had great experiences with each. If it’s not just a hypothetical, good luck!

I agree that it seems a false decision. I would find a nice older bottle that's ripe for drinking and create space for the two. ;)

I would go with the 2018 smith. Anyone order futures for 2020 vintage? Looks like it will be amazing- you could get 2 for the price of one if you are willing to wait.

I ordered quite a few 2020 futures, but didn’t take either the Lynch or the Smith. I ordered Haut Brion, Mouton Rothschild, Cos d’Estournel (red and white), Pichon-Loungeville Baron, Pape Clement (red and white) and a few more regular drinkers.

That said both the Lynch and the Smith 2020 are still available for $798 and $834 per six with my usual futures seller. I probably should reconsider them given the scores, pricing and availability.

For a bit of thread closure, I'm just going to keep both. :)
