There is a 1991 Mondial I have found which I am considering buying. Over all it looks pretty good, but have yet to have a PPI performed on it.

It is a cab, has a nice top, but the rear window is just so-so. If I buy the car I would probably want that window replaced. My question is, can the window be replaced by a good top shop, or does the whole top have to be replaced? Any one with experience in this problem, I would like you input.

Second thing is the passenger side latching mechanism is not working properly and will have to be replaced or fixed. Anyone have experience with this type of fix? Do not want to buy the car and find out I am going to have continuing problem with the latch and have to listen to an air leak every time I drive the car with the top up, and have the possibility of water coming into the car when washing it, driving it in the rain, or letting it sit outside in the rain.

    Thanks

They leak. Period. The top latches have readily available replacements, from someone in the Mondial section here. Don't know about the read window, ask your local upholstery shop. The sound be able to tell you.

it's not a problem to replace only the rear window,
I've done a number of them over the years.

Which part f the latch is broken? New toggles are available from Ron Frohock (member here). If it's the piece attached to the header that is harder to source.

The design of the header gasket is horrible, and unless new or almost new they dump water on your legs, armrests, etc. Water collects in the groove between the top and the gasket and runs down to the corners and then inside. I have worked on reconditioning the gasket as much as possible and it helped, but the ends are so chewed up it needs something better.

Make sure you also know how to adjust the top to header tightness with the adjustable toggle screws. And that the top tightness is adjusted with the concentrics in back. A tight top to header fit is important (once your toggle is fixed)... without stretching the top so tight it wears badly.

I'll try to find some helpful links in the Mondial section if someone doesn't beat me to it..

The wind noise will be there anyway with the top up (new header gasket may solve... don;t know). Much quieter car with it down.

    Good luck.
