    My 599 was in the shop after 1743 miles and 3 months of ownership

    DISCLAIMER
    I am not a mechanic, and my vernacular for engines is not up to speed with many of you out there so no wise cracks over language; this is purely for information purposes, and insight

    1. Check Engine Light (make sure you tighten your gas caps, insure the rubber seal doesnt get caught in the gas tube)
    this minor issue will set off your check engine light, and will insure a trip to the dealer to reset...what the dealer may find also is a faulty sensor (mine had this small problem easy fix)

    2. a clicking sound coming from the engine bay
    not so much fun...my car was out of action for about two weeks on this...the clicking sound comes from some mounts in the transmission which are about the size of 4 quarters stacked on top of each other...this could be an engine out fix if its in the back of the bay or engine in if its in the front of bay (mine was in the back so you can imagine the work the guys had to do to get her fixed) some interesting inside info on this....ferrari's investigation into the matter stated only 2 599's had this problem, ironically they were both in Tampa, additionally the fix came after the sound was "recorded" and sent to Italy for instructions (i found this funny)

    the latter issue could be a big concern when the car exits warranty, cause the time displacement to get this fixed was extrordinary;

    One last question for the forum, whether you own a 599 or any other front engine model...Have any of you had your hood pop open after a high speed run (I am not infering the hood popped up to my front window, just up from its "locked" position)...two times in the last month I exceed 100 mph and had to get out of the vehicle in the middle of traffic, and drop the hood into the locked position

    If the hood pops up one more time you have a legitimate lemon law claim. Get a new one! :)

    Alex, you know damn well you trade when the ashtray is full :)
    I've done considerably more in my car and hood never popped. One of my Maranellos did that at 165, annoying is understatement. Dealer needs to adjust latch.
    The recording thing-All dealer service depts are assumed to be stupid/incompetent, even though correct. I've spent a few hours on phone with FNA engineers over various things. Latest was a trip computer speed memory thing-on bluetooth phone with engineer doing 133, trip odo said 45. It got fixed :)
    Would love more details off repair order on the noise. Never had it, but worth looking at. Is yours an 07,08, or 09?

    mine is an 09, I was told the repair order is in the mail...should be at the house any day, will gladly post...i have had the same tech work on my 3 fcars and I believe he is quite brilliant...If I had a complaint it would be Ferrari being slow to deliver parts, and trying to be cheap on warranty issues

    Hood has unlocked at times, but I attribute it to lack of my having seated it more carefully. I keep a tender on it and didn't bother to install a grill plug. Thus open hood, hookup and reverse when wanting to drive. Even though I'm quite certain I secure hood, it has happened to me twice.

    Not alarmed as I just reseat and good to go.
